Newcastle United keen on signing Premier League fullback: A smashing move by Rafa?

Luke Shaw’s days at Manchester United seems to be heavily numbered as his relationship with Jose Mourinho has really deteriorated in recent months. Shaw has hardly had first team chances under Mourinho and when he does play, he tends to get criticized by the Portuguese.

When Shaw first burst onto the scene, he was regarded as one of the finest youngsters in English football during his spell with Southampton. Manchester United made a move for him in the summer of 2014 and were successful in making him sign on the dotted line for a transfer fee of £27million. However, his move hasn’t worked out well.

Injuries kept him in and out of the side and apart from that, Mourinho had criticised the youngster for his fitness and lack of form. Newcastle United appeared to be interested in January but the deal failed to materialise. So far this season, he has made just 7 appearances in the Premier League and is desperate for regular game time.

The former Chelsea manager restored him in his starting line-up for the FA Cup quarter-final win over Brighton & Hove Albion. However, the scenario went from bad to worse after he was replaced at half-time and Mourinho publicly bashed Shaw for his outing against the Seagulls. There have been reports stating that the English international is unhappy and is set for an exit in the summer.

Paul Dummett is the only experienced left-back that the Magpies have at the club. Chancel Mbemba and Massadio Haidara have flattered to deceive and no wonder Benitez has put Shaw on his radar once again as per reports by Northern Echo.

The former Southampton defender has shown moments of quality and exuberance in his outings this season, but he must be consistent in his performances. Shaw needs proper guidance and support to thrive and if Benitez manages to do that, the club certainly won’t regret signing him.

Newcastle are battling relegation and are currently 4 points above the relegation zone. If they manage to survive, they should try to sign Shaw as he is a fine fullback with immense potential and calibre. Shaw appears to have lost his footing at Manchester United and thus, moving to a new club should help him resurrect his career.
