Chelsea return to Premier League duty tomorrow and they will face a relatively easy task, atleast on paper. The Blues will welcome a beleaguered Burnley side who are fighting for survival and are currently in the 19th spot.
The Vincent Kompany managed side will be desperate to spring a surprise and will be ready with their own gameplan to derail an inconsistent Chelsea side’s grand plans to launch a late and unlikely challenge for a European spot.
Romeo Lavia (thigh), Lesley Ugochukwu (hamstring), Levi Colwill (toe), Reece James (hamstring), Wesley Fofana (knee) and Christopher Nkunku (hamstring) remain out of action for the Blues. And three names were added to that list which was announced via Chelsea’s weekly injury bulletin- Carney Chukwuemeka, Robert Sanchez and Trevoh Chalobah.
Ben Chilwell, who has recently returned from an injury, played 157 minutes for England and will be assessed by his club as the season enters its business end.
Djordje Petrovic will be stationed in goal and he will be quietly confident of keeping a clean sheet.
Malo Gusto is likely to play as the right-back in the Chelsea lineup with Marc Cucurella on the opposite flank.
Trevoh Chalobah is unlikely to be fit in time for the fixture which means one of Thiago Silva or Benoit Badiashile will need to come in for him. We expect the latter to be handed a start and he will be positioned alongside Axel Disasi as the centre-backs in the Chelsea lineup.
Enzo Fernandez might emerge as a slight doubt given his late arrival to Cobham after his South American exploits.
If he is indeed placed on the bench, Conor Gallagher might have to drop back in to central midfield. He will then likely form the double pivot with Moises Caicedo. The duo should have enough in their tank to outclass the Burnley midfield on the day.
Mykhailo Mudryk will then find himself in the Chelsea lineup in the no.10 role looking to exploit the gaps in the Clarets’ defence and feed the ball to the mercurial Blues’ attackers.
Pochettino will bank on Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling to further provide the creativity from their positions on the flanks while young Nicolas Jackson will be tasked with leading the Chelsea attack.
