Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are genuinely one of the most exciting sides to watch in Europe at the moment and it does not come as a surprise that they are linked with some of the finest stars in Europe, for a move at the end of the season.
The manager wants to improve on his options in the midfield and has been linked with a host of stars recently and the latest name doing the rounds is Nicolo Barella.
Barella To Cost £45m
One of the most promising youngsters in Italy at the moment, Barella has been in superb form for Italian outfit Cagliari this season and has been a transfer target for Italian giants Juventus. However, it is now understood that Liverpool are also interested in his signature.
Cagliari do not want to lose him anytime soon but are ready to listen to offers at £45m. So should Liverpool spend big on Barella?
Barella And His Potential
A product of the academy at Cagliari, the 21-year old has represented his national side at every junior level and is not too far away from a call-up to the senior side. He has turned into an important part of the squad at Sardegna Arena, where has made 23 league starts, mustered three goals and an assist.
A central midfielder, who can play in an attacking role, Barella is a hard tackling midfielder, who loves to read the game and frustrate the opponents. He often looks for runners, sitting deep in the midfield but is more than capable of dribbling away from danger and creating chances for his side.
He gives away needless fouls but is smart in hold up play and will only get better with more game time on the field. He is swift and smart in his movement, is usually effective with the ball at his feet and is considered the next big thing to come out of Italy.
Chances At Liverpool
The Reds lost Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window and may also lose Emre Can to Juventus at the end of the season. If they do end up selling the German, Liverpool will see off competition from Old Lady for the services of Barella.
But the Reds are also linked with the likes of Jorginho and are ready to welcome Naby Keita for the new season so they might want to spend on a more established star, who can walk into the first team. They have the likes of Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner for this role so they are better off trying to spend for the first team rather than for backups.
But do you think Klopp should trust Barella and meet his valuation?
