Nottingham Forest Pursuing 21 Y/O Premier League Winger: A Good Move In The Offing?

According to a recent report by Hull Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest are keen to land Liverpool’s young gun Sheyi Ojo. He is a subject of interest of many Championship outfits. The report states that Reading are also keen to prise him out of Anfield whereas Express stated that West Bromwich Albion have also joined the line.

Ojo emerged through the youth ranks of Milton Keynes Dons and Liverpool. He hasn’t been able to carve a regular spot in the line-up till now. However, he has had loan spells with Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham, which have certainly helped him to polish himself further. Intriguingly, his loan spell with the Cottagers last season was really impressive as he helped them in getting promoted to the Premier League.

He bagged 22 appearances under his belt for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side, scoring 4 goals and garnering 2 assists. Besides, he registered a decent pass accuracy of 83.1%. His spell last year and the consistency he displayed under the pressure of a promotion chase are the major reasons why Nottingham Forest have placed him on their radar.

He is capable of plying his trade across the attacking line and his work-rate is commendable. The 21-year-old is a typical winger with raw pace in his legs and exceptional dribbling ability. As a rising star, his decision making capability and hold-up play has seen a tremendous growth over the last couple of years.

The Tricky Trees, under the stewardship of Aitor Karanka, have been really busy this summer trying to lure the right personnel to their camp in order to make a serious push for promotion to the top flight. They have made some high-profile signings like Joao Carvalho, Lewis Grabban and El Arbi Hillel Soudani and by signing an exciting young talent like Ojo, they would certainly add more quality to what is already a formidable side.

Ojo is unlikely to get regular game time under his belt at Liverpool and considering that he needs to play regularly to keep his developmental process in the ascendancy, an exit would make a lot of sense. He is acclimatized with the Championship and should be able to better his credentials under Karanka. However, Express has reported that Liverpool want £15million to strike him off their books and this might be a stumbling block for Nottingham Forest.
