Chelsea haven’t really replaced Diego Costa, have they? Although they had something to cheer about with the arrival of Alvaro Morata, the Spaniard has been pretty out of touch after a good start. While Olivier Giroud has been brought in as a backup, Conte could be tempted to sign a world class striker in the summer.
Chelsea are reportedly in line to lure Bayern hit-man Robert Lewandowski away from the Allianz Arena in a bid to add more goals to their team.
Best in the world?
The Polish international’s numbers are quite staggering and unreal. Racking up 29 goals in 34 outings is an astounding record, averaging 0.85 goals every game. He is a nightmare for defences with his movements in and around the box. Talk about instant impact, the 5-time Polish Footballer of the Year holds the record for having scored 5 goals in 8 minutes against Wolfsburg, a performance that completely changed the complexion of the tie.
In comparison to one of Europe’s hottest prospects Harry Kane, his numbers are right up there. Kane takes aim an average 5.6 times every game in comparison to Lewandowski’s average of 4.6. With respect to this, Kane has 24 goals in 27 games to his name in the Premier League against the Bavarian’s record of 20 goals in 23 games.
What will he offer Chelsea?
Goals, and that too in abundance. He would fit in just perfectly under Conte’s system, one that is quite similar to the way the Bavarians carry out their task. At Bayern, he has played a lot with his back facing the goal which will be the case for the men in blue. His hold up and link up play is just what is required of a striker playing in Conte’s system. The trust on Morata seems to be lacking at the moment as Conte has preferred Hazard as a false number 9 in recent times.
The ex-Dortmund star’s arrival would reset Hazard back to the left wing where he looks most dangerous.
Should Chelsea go all out?
For sure, this is a mouthwatering prospect and the Chelsea officials should do everything in their power to make this capture if at all the player is made available in the summer.
As one of the world’s best, European giants will be in the table ready to place their bets. Lewandowski who is tied to Bayern until 2021, has reportedly hired a new agent Pini Zahavi who could attempt to force through a transfer away from the German giants. Perhaps a player like Lewandowski could help shift the power in Chelsea’s favour who are behind the two Manchester clubs and Liverpool in the points table.
