Transfer Story:
Few clubs capped off the January transfer window in a better manner than Manchester United. The signing of Alexis Sanchez, albeit via swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way brought a sense of enthusiasm to the squad and the fans alike.
The Chilean has made a great start, though he had to taste defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. While Jose seems to be happy with the attacking options at his disposal, media outlets continue naming them as one of the clubs interested in Bundesliga sensation, Leon Bailey.
If the good folks over at Talksport are to be believed then around three top Premier League clubs are keeping track of young starlet Leon Bailey and Manchester United are one of them.
The Bayer Leverkusen player has been recognised as a top talent in Germany and maybe next summer could be when we see him leaving Bundesliga.
Who’s this young lad?
Actually, Bailey is not an unknown figure anymore. The Jamaican was in the news and was linked with a move away from Bayer Leverkusen in January too. Bailey is a wide player and can feature as a wingback or as a winger too. He usually plays on the right wing and is a potent attacking threat on that side of the pitch.
The player does justice to his Jamaican roots and possesses an abundance of energy and searing pace. He can stretch the defence and likes to stay wide and is an adept crosser of the ball. Leon has some amazing tricks up his sleeve and the lad can give a tough time to any defender. At just 20 years of age, he can only get better.
He has appeared 18 times in the Bundesliga this season and has already scored eight goals and notched up five assists so far. For a player of his age, he is very calm and more often than not takes the correct decision in the final third. Moreover, he backtracks regularly and has won a decent 47% of his defensive duels in the league.
The Possibility of Manchester United signing him:
Jose Mourinho told the media that he would not sign any more attacking players in the near future. The gaffer claims that he has some of the best-attacking talents at his disposal and hence that department is not lacking anything right now.
United do have some woes on the right wing but the gaffer might just decide to play Marcus Rashford there rather than breaking the bank for a 20-year old youngster. Also, it might be too early for Leon Bailey to make the big switch to Manchester United.
Playing for the Red Devils comes with its own sets of difficulties and the lad needs to be extremely sure of handling these big responsibilities. Maybe not in the next window but he can be a future prospect when the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata slow down a few years down the line.
