According to a recent report by The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Bordeaux winger, Malcom who is valued at £35m by his current club. Earlier during this transfer window, Malcom was a subject of interest of Tottenham Hotspur’s local rivals, Arsenal, but it is understood that the Gunners have pulled out of the race thus clearing the way for Spurs to thrash out a deal.
The race for clinching a place in the Champions League is going to get tougher in the coming days and with Spurs being one of the candidates eyeing for a top-four finish, they must beef up their armoury considerably to impose a strong challenge. But while Pochettino has to keep an eye on a hectic couple of remaining months, he also has to plan for the future to keep up with the big guns going into the seasons to come.
Malcom’s calibre started to get recognised whilst he was playing in the youth setup of Corinthians and was eventually handed the opportunity to progress to their senior side. In the January transfer window of 2016, he was lured to the ranks of the Gorindins and ever since his move to the French top division was finalised, he has been absolutely scintillating to watch.
In 20 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, the 20-year-old has smashed 7 goals and has also registered 5 assists and has created ripples in French football. The winger is really fast and navigates the length of the flanks with relative ease with his pace and trickery. He holds the ball really well, loves to cut inside and test the goalkeeper and is good at passing the ball as well.
Moreover, he loves to cross and given that he is someone who constantly looks for chances to find the back of the net, he can take the offensive game plan of Pochettino further. However, he isn’t a finished article by any means and there are many areas he needs to improve on. Given that he lacks experience of English football, signing him would impliedly mean undertaking a bit of a risk.
Nonetheless, he is a player who has lots of potential and has been faring pretty well this season. The Ligue 1 outfit are believed to have slapped a price tag of £35million on Malcom’s collar and with the transfer window still wide open, it would be intriguing to see the nature of the deal, if at all, it materialises from here on.
