Manchester United have failed to find enough consistency this season and though they are in the 2nd position in the points table, they need to improve on their performances for the rest of the season, to compete with the best in the business end of the campaign. There are a number of star players on the radar of the Manchester club and one player they are now desperate to land is Bundesliga talent, Leon Bailey.
Transfer story:
Speaking to the media recently, Leon Bailey revealed that he has a dream club in England. Though he was not willing to reveal that name of the club, his comments have alerted the top clubs in the Premier League.
The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea are also interested in his services but reports suggest that Manchester United are now ready to meet his valuation before deadline day. He is expected to cost around £40m. Bayer Leverkusen, his current club, rejected a bid from Chelsea not so long ago so should United lure him to England? :
Bailey And His Talent:
A product of the Trencin academy in Jamaica, his hometown, Bailey moved to Europe with Jupiler League outfit Genk back in 2015. He took no time to establish himself in the first team, making 56 appearances in just two seasons with the club. He was picked up by Bayer Leverkusen in the last January transfer window, amidst interest from a number of clubs, which has now returned in this transfer window.
With 6 goals and 4 assists in just 10 starts in the Bundesliga this season, he has shown a drastic improvement over the last year and is one of the most exciting players on show in Europe.
A versatile winger, who can play on either wing and also as a wing-back, Bailey is an attack-minded player, who has all the attributes that will make him a superstar in the future. He is a hard-working player, who loves to exhaust himself at the end of every game. He is an excellent dribbler with exceptional crossing technique and can constantly create chances in the final third.
He is an asset during set-pieces and can score goals regularly from outside the box while his positioning sense and ability to see space in tight areas makes him that much more effective.
He may not be as strong in the air and has to improve on his hold up play. He also needs to learn the art of tracking back in crucial games but at just 20, he is certainly a player that will improve the quality of any squad that he walks into.
Chances at Old Trafford:
Jose Mourinho loves versatile players, who can cover in more than one position and the fact that Bailey has been effective even as a wing-back, apart from a winger will attract the United manager. The Red Devils also lack a genuine winger and have suffered due to lack of width in the attack in most games this season.
He seems to be a player confident in his abilities and if he is unfazed by the challenge of playing for a club of United’s stature, he can even be an immediate asset for the Red Devils.
Surely, he is a player Mourinho should go all in for.
