Jurgen Klopp will be a happy man if his Liverpool are side are able to qualify for the Champions League next season but he is aware of the frailties in the squad and is desperate to add some star names to his side in the summer transfer window.
This has seen a number of exciting players linked with a move to Anfield and the latest name that the fans are animated about is Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi.
Liverpool Make Ndidi Approach
Arguably one of the most consistent players for Leicester City this season, Wilfred Ndidi is now a top transfer target for Liverpool, according to a reputed African journalist, who broke Naby Keita’s move to Liverpool last summer. He claimed yesterday that Liverpool have already approached the player over a move at the end of the season.
But he also added that Leicester City are likely to slap a hefty price tag, which might be an issue for the Reds. But is Ndidi the right man for Liverpool?
Ndidi And His Style Of Play
A dynamic player, who loves to dominate and impose himself on the game, the Nigerian international is a defensive midfielder with great technique and temperament at the highest level. Strong in the air and hold up play, Ndidi is quick across the turf and is adept at covering for his defence, sitting deep and adding numbers to his side’s backline.
He puts in crunching tackles and wins the ball in dangerous areas and though can improve on his distribution and creativity in the final third, has done enough to turn him into one of the best players in his role in England at the moment.
At just 21, he has already established himself in the first team at King Power and adds a balance to the side’s midfield, that allows the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton concentrate on creating chances at the other end.
He is smart with his positioning and his tenacity and ability to read the game and stay a step ahead of his opponents makes him all the more effective.
Best Option For Liverpool?
The Reds are expected to lose Emre Can to Juventus at the end of the season and though welcome Naby Keita for the new campaign, will still need a no.6, who can sit back and dictate play in Klopp’s high-intensity style of play.
There are not many midfielders who fit the bill well but Ndidi, even at his age, is a perfect fit for that system at Anfield. Liverpool are also looking at Jorginho, who might be expensive and hard to lure to England, making Ndidi’s signature all the more important.
It is quite obvious that the 21-year old is destined to play for the biggest clubs in Europe but has a contract till 2022, that will allow the Foxes to milk a huge amount of potential suitors. But the fact that he solves an impending problem for the club might see Liverpool spend big on his services this summer.
