Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have provided the January transfer window with some entertainment with their search for specially gifted players in the height department. There have been some bizarre links but one player that Chelsea fans are having slightly positive reactions to is Edin Dzeko.
Chelsea Set Deadline For Dzeko Deal:
The Blues are in desperate search for a striker, who can act as a backup to Alvaro Morata in the first team and this has seen them linked with AS Roma star Edin Dzeko, for a move this January. Reports claim that Dzeko is at the top of the wish-list for Conte this month but that he is not ready to wait until the deadline day for this deal.
A story from The Telegraph now claims that Chelsea have given the Italian outfit till Monday to seal this deal and if they are not able to come to a decision, he will move on to other targets. So should Chelsea wait for Dzeko?
Dzeko And His Numbers:
Having made a name for himself for the first team in Europe at the Volkswagen Arena, Dzeko moved to England for the first time back in 2011 and spent five years at Manchester City, winning the Premier League title on a couple of occasions, after he lifted the German league title in 2009.
With 111 Bundesliga appearances and 130 Premier League appearances to add to 89 Serie A games, 43 UCL outings and 89 caps, most of them as the skipper for the Bosnian national side, Dzeko is easily one of the most experienced strikers in world football. He has 10 goals and two assists in 20 Serie A starts this season and is the best option for Chelsea on their wish list.
His previous experience in England along with his attributes and ability to find the back of the net consistently is exactly what Chelsea need at the moment.
Chances At Chelsea:
Even with such an impressive record, Dzeko is not expected to start over Morata in the first team. He will only be a backup if he wants to lead the line but he may also be used as a part of the attack, with Eden Hazard playing in behind Dzeko and Morata.
Dzeko’s ability to play in more than one role makes him a necessity for the Blues. More so as the likes of Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch and Ashley Barnes, the other options on Conte’s wish-list, are not quality backups for the Spanish striker at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will have to fight hard for his signature but Dzeko will improve their chances at the business end of the season and is a player they should do all it takes to land this month.
