The Background
As per one of the latest reports by the Daily Record, Celtic are understood to be in the contemplative stage of luring Arsenal’s starlet, Krystian Bielik, on loan for the rest of the season. So far, under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers, the Celts have been able to keep their domestic superiority intact as they are placed at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, with 51 points to their name from 22 outings.
Although they have a healthy lead of 8 points over Aberdeen, who are currently in the 2nd spot, Rodgers’ troops cannot afford to be complacent in their approach and given that the second half of the season might throw some surprises, some additions are required to bring some freshness into the squad and keep the other players on their toes. Their apparent interest in Bielik makes perfect sense, for he is indeed a young player with immense potential, which sits in well with Rodgers’ recruitment policy.
Fact File
Bielik emerged through the youth ranks of Gornik Konin and Lech Poznari and was then signed by Polish outfit, Legia Warsaw. Arsene Wenger has been perennially known for his inclination to sign youngsters who have the ability to blossom a few years down the line and Bielik was one of them. He was lured to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window of 2015 but he hasn’t been able to cement his place in Arsenal’s senior side.
For the second half of last season, he was shipped out on loan to Birmingham City and he fared in a pretty decent manner. The 20-year-old is still in his formative years and needs more loan spells under his belt and thus, a loan move to the Celtic Park might prove to be a beneficial one for him.
Is He Good Enough?
Bielik is a composed central-defender who barely gives away the ball. He is excellent in making well-timed interceptions and tackles. He reads the game well and is versatile enough to ply his trade as a central defensive midfielder and this might interest Rodgers, who loves to give the youngsters a pedestal to showcase their talents.
The likes of Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele have been absolutely sensational under the stewardship of the former Liverpool manager. Apart from the Hoops, the Polish youngster is a subject of interest from his former club, Legia Warsaw too. The Scottish Premiership outfit have already signed Marvin Compper earlier this month from RB Leipzig to strengthen their backline and Bielik might follow suit soon.
