After a stupendous season in the Premier League, the summer transfer window hasn’t been a lively one for Tottenham Hotspur. Under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs were the only side who went toe to toe with Chelsea in the battle for glory right until the very end. They did give the Blues a tough fight and despite their failure to clinch the silverware, they made a bold statement.
Having showed a lot of exuberance, stability and class, it was felt that the white half of North London would splash cash in the summer transfer window and get the requisite depth and quality which could enable them in taking going one step better in the 2017-18 campaign of the Premier League. However, Pochettino hasn’t really done any sort of business which the football fraternity believed that he would and it goes without saying that the Argentine is seemingly ready to rely on the cohesion of his group.
Kondogbia the right target?
But then, for a club of their stature, a deal or two might be on the cards before the transfer window shuts down and the availability of a proven defensive midfielder in the shape of Geoffrey Kondogbia should really interest the Lilywhites. As per one of the reports by TalkSPORT, Kondogbia is ready to leave Inter this summer after spending a couple of seasons with mixed dividends with the Black and Blues and it is believed that he is interested to ply his trade in the English top flight.
The French international is a player of notable calibre and considering Pochettino’s strong beliefs of operating will a disciplined and well manned defensive setup, someone like Kondogbia would perfectly fit the bill.
What will he offer?
He sits in front of the back line, makes interceptions and decisive tackles, and thwarts the attacking moves of the opposition with his good game reading ability. He is physically quite strong to withstand the rigours of Premier League as well.
Most importantly, he is a proven package and thus, the involvement of the risk factor will be low.
Spurs need to be quick in taking the decisive measures with respect to Kondogbia, as Liverpool are also believed to be alerted by his availability. In the previous campaign in Serie A, the 24-year-old accumulated 24 appearances to his name in which he registered 2.6 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 0.6 clearances and 0.1 blocks per game on an average.
Moreover, he bagged 2 assists and scored once and with a decent pass accuracy of 84.4%, he is someone whose entry into the ranks of Spurs will automatically raise its quality.
