According to one of the latest reports by Yorkshire Evening Post, Championship outfit Leeds United have put Hamburger SV’s hitman Pierre-Michel Lasogga on their radar. The Whites have started the 2017-18 campaign in a decent manner with a 2-3 score line, as they bagged all three points against newly promoted outfit Bolton Wanderers away at the Macon Stadium.
They did show their attacking tooth against Port Vale in Football League Cup’s first round as well as they clinched a 4-1 win. The West Yorkshire based club have been pretty occupied this summer in order to beef up their arsenal, yet, Thomas Christiansen is far from being a satisfied man.
In the previous season in the English second tier, they did manage plenty of outstanding performances but failed to earn a play-off spot owing to their sporadic run of form during the business end of the campaign. Nonetheless, it has to be mentioned that the former APOEL manager was rendered a decent pedestal by Garry Monk’s spell at the Elland Road, on which Christiansen would be keen to capitalise.
On many occasions, it was evident under Monk that the Peacocks needed someone up front to share the goal scoring responsibilities with Chris Wood, and the lack of the same was did take a toll on the New Zealand international. With their latest interest to make Lasogga sign on their dotted line, it has to be mentioned that their intentions make complete sense.
The 25-year-old kicked off his senior career with Bayer Leverkusen II and then moved to Hertha Berlin and Hamburger SV, which have helped pick up adequate experience of German football. He might not be a very appealing prospect at this stroke of hour, but at one point of time in his career, he was close to making an entry to the German national side.
Injuries hindered his prospects and considering that he could score merely 1 goal in 20 appearances in German top flight last term, the Red Shorts are keen to strike him off their books as he is a surplus to the requirements of the club. Although his wage demands might impose a stumbling block in his move to the Leeds United, Hamburger are believed to be willing to compensate Lasogga’s wages in order to facilitate his exit.
Christiansen has already signed Caleb Ekuban to compete with Wood for grabbing a place in the starting line-up and luring someone like Lasogga would further enhance the same. Besides, a change of shores might actually enable him to put his career, which appears to be stagnating, back on track.
