The Premier League is just a couple of days away but Premier League Champions Chelsea are still looking for a few first team options before starting their new campaign in England. Conte has added some star players to his lineup already but has a couple of positions in the squad that need to be strengthened and this has seen him stay active in the transfer market this summer.
He has been linked with some of the brightest stars in Europe for some time now and one player who Conte is now desperate for is AS Monaco star Djibril Sidibe.
Conte desperate for Sidibe
Having already raided the French side AS Monaco for their star midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, lack of options in the transfer market will now see Chelsea make a move for yet another star from the Stade Louis II this summer.
According to reports, Chelsea are now ready to make a move for Djibril Sidibe and are ready to do what it takes to land him after Antonio Conte failed to land Alex Sandro from Juventus. The Brazil full-back is expected to stay back in Italy this summer and Sidibe has now turned into a priority transfer target for the Blues this summer.
Sidibe: a part of the Monaco revolution:
A product of the academy in Troyes in his native town, Sidibe only made a name for himself after his move to Lille back in 2012. After four long years, he was snapped up by AS Monaco at the start of the previous season and Sidibe became the first choice right back for the side, making 29 Ligue 1 appearances picking up six assists and two goals in that time.
A right back by trait, the 25-year old can also play as a wing-back or as a left-back and is one of the most dependable defenders in France at the moment. Known for his pace and energy throughout the game, Sidibe is a defensively astute full-back, who loves to keep his side away from danger, more than he loves to take on his man at the other end.
He is strong with hold up play and with balls in the air and is a perfect fit for the English style of play. He makes important interceptions, which makes him even more dangerous while his 126 Ligue 1 appearances, 12 Champions League appearances and 10 international appearances make him an established star in Europe.
First Choice wing-back at Chelsea:
So it does not come as a surprise that Chelsea are ready to meet his valuation as they are desperate to find a first choice right-back for the new season. Victor Moses, the current first choice, right wing-back, scored in the Community Shield game recently but he is not expected to be the first choice for the club when they face the toughest of the teams in the Champions League.
Antonio Rudiger’s addition might allow Conte to use Cesar Azpilicueta in this role but Sidibe is a better choice as he is naturally suited for a wing-back role. He can add the solidity that Moses misses at times and though he may not be as productive, will surely improve Chelsea’s over all game. But is he the right man for the Blues?
