Transfer story
Tottenham Hotspur have been the most silent of all the Premier League clubs in terms of transfer signings made this summer. They are tracking a few players but have not yet received success in their pursuit. Meanwhile, leading tabloids in England and Portugal have linked Mauricio Pochettino’s side with Benfica midfielder, Ljubomir Fejsa.
Fejsa is known as Mr. Success in Europe with the defensive midfielder winning nine league titles in the last nine years. It was in 2008 when Fejsa last failed to win the league crown.
He has won four consecutive titles with Benfica, two with Olympiakos before that and three with Partizan Belgrade. It is being reported that Spurs have enquired for the Serbian but Benfica want to keep their man this summer which means that the North Londoners will have to prepare a big money move for the midfielder.
Player stats
Fejsa arrived in Portugal in 2014 after Benfica paid £4 million to Olympiakos and acquired his services. The 28-year old played 34 matches for Benfica last season and also managed a solitary goal for the Portuguese giants. With 2.4 tackles and 2 interceptions per 90 minutes in the Champions League for Benfica, Fejsa is currently at the top of his game and might prove to be a smart buy for the Lilywhites. What’ll Ljubomir Fejsa offer Spurs?
Spurs will hope for a better outing in the Champions League this time around and for that to happen, squad depth is the most important quality to possess. The North London side have Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama in their ranks but Fejsa is an experienced customer and will bring his winning mentality to the Spurs side.
He is a tough tackler and likes to dictate the game from the back. Fejsa also has a good understanding of the game and is adept at adjusting to various situations.
Worth the money?
The fee for Fejsa has not yet been decided but it is expected to be around £20 million, Mad About EPL understands. He has just a year left on his current contract and will not sign an extension with Spurs eyeing a move for him. More than his footballing abilities, Spurs will hope that Ljubomir Fejsa will become a lucky charm to Mauricio Pochettino and help them win the Premier League after two failed attempts in as many years. Whereas the Serbian can play for one of Europe’s most exciting sides and can also try for a 10th consecutive league title.
