Mauricio Pochettino has managed to revolutionise Tottenham Hotspur in a way no manager ever has in the last two decades. Despite enjoying a highly successful campaign this season, Tottenham’s two new arrivals have failed to impress which highlights the need of a helping hand in the transfer market. Regardless, Pochettino has surely been frustrated with the level of performances of Vincent Janssen and Moussa Sissoko.
The gaffer has made it fairly clear with his decisions that anyone who underperforms quite consistently has no place in the club, let alone the squad. Below are the three players who are likely to not be a part of Tottenham next season.
Moussa Sissoko
After being a star in France’s squad which made it to the final of the European championship, Tottenham sort of panicked and bought the 27-year-old on the deadline day for an astounding £30m. Moussa Sissoko has been, to put it bluntly, a massive failure in his first season at Tottenham.
Sissoko has been played on the right-wing despite his best performances coming when he played a box-to-box role. On rare occasions he has managed to make good runs but has failed to deliver good crosses. His best game was against Manchester City in October but his simply failed to carry on the momentum and make it into a purple patch.
He has not featured much for Spurs, making majority of his appearances from the bench and Tottenham will probably offload the winger if they get a decent offer. AC Milan have shown interest in the former Newcastle United player.
Vincent Janssen
Vincent Janssen has had a woeful first season at Spurs and has failed to acclimatise to the English game. Despite showing signs of good form in the recent games, I highly doubt if Pochettino has the patience for the Dutchman.
Despite making 36 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham, a majority of which have come off the bench, Janssen has only scored twice from open play and although he has shown some really good back to the goal play, he has failed to do what he was signed for – score goals.
When he was bought, some were even of the opinion that he might challenge Harry Kane for a starting berth but after some really disappointing performances, he should worry about his future in North London.
Erik Lamela
Erik Lamela has spent the season out, nursing a hip injury since October. The Argentine had a surgery about a month ago and will only be able to start next season for Spurs. But I feel there are surely question marks looming over his future at Spurs.
Tottenham have never been transparent about matters and I sense something fishy about the situation. Despite making assurances that he would like to return to the pitch as quickly as possible, there have been rumours about him being homesick even though he had denied them.
With Tottenham competing in numerous competitions next season, perhaps they would want someone who can feature regularly and I believe Pochettino can let his compatriot go if a decent offer comes in.
