Tottenham Hotspur Readying A Hefty £30m Bid For Brazilian Dazzler: Pochettino To Strike Gold?

Mauricio Pochettino has done brilliantly since arriving in North London and has changed the mood surrounding Tottenham Hotspur. From being top four chasers, the Lilywhites have gone on to challenge for the Premier League title two years in a row. The shortcoming for them has been a lack of depth which cost them dearly in the Champions League and also in the crucial league games.

The Argentine is on course to rectify his mistakes this summer with Spurs getting linked with some world class names. Top of that pile is the name of Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa who has fallen out of favour under manager Carlo Ancelotti. It has been written in various tabloids that Costa is keen on the challenge of testing himself in the Premier League and Spurs are ready to bid £30million for the Brazilian – their joint highest price for a new recruit.

Though he has featured in 21 games out of 29 for the Bavarians this season, the majority of them have come from the bench. Ancelotti’s preference for Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery has forced Costa to be satisfied with a place on the sidelines. The Brazilian is hungry for regular game time which can be a reality at Tottenham for him next season. He will be out to prove his mettle after just two seasons at Bayern Munich which makes it a must thing to do for Spurs in taking him on board.

He will be a big name signing for Spurs and can prove to be a statement of intent from Pochettino and co. ahead of the new season. Last summer’s recruitments for the flanks, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Moussa Sissoko, have failed miserably which makes it a certainty for Spurs to buy a winger this time around. There won’t be any other player available of Costa’s talents at this prize in the summer elsewhere as Spurs must do everything in their might to sign the 26-year old from Munich whose current deal expires in 2020.

He can fit into Pochettino’s methods effectively and will add flair and creativity to their wings where the North London side have faltered in recent seasons. His arrival will mean that Spurs will have ample firepower on their flanks in the form of Douglas Costa, Erik Lamela and Heung-Min Son.

He might not be the tallest, but he sure is hard to stop when he marauds on the flanks and has a similar penchant for cutting in and shooting like Robben, the current first-choice.

In his injury-plagued season, Costa has managed four goals and three assists this season and has attempted the most dribbles from his side which goes on to show his prowess at the highest level. Costa has all the tools to become a huge success in the Premier League and can be the final piece of the jigsaw in Spurs long-awaited bid for a league title.
