As per latest reports by Express, Leeds United are very much in the race to sign Preston North End’s in-demand striker, Jordan Hugill. The report states that the club have slapped a price tag £10million but Thomas Christiansen side have apparently offered £8million to lure him to the Elland Road before the transfer window shuts down.
There isn’t much time left and Leeds United must beef up their attacking arsenal quickly. The Yorkshire based club has appeared rusty up front and Christiansen doesn’t have many options either. However, signing Hugill won’t be a straight-forward task as Crystal Palace and Reading are also keen on snapping him up before the deadline.
Leeds United are currently placed 10th spot in the Championship table with 44 points from 29 games. They did start the season well but have waned of late. From their last 5 league games, they have managed to collect merely a couple of points, so the hopes of finishing in a playoff spot are slowing fading away, unless they can reverse their poor form, of course.
Their apparent interest to sign Hugill makes complete sense. He has smashed in 10 goals and notched up 1 assist in 29 games across all competitions and has emerged as a player Preston North End rate quite highly. As per reports, Preston North End’s manager, Alex Neil, doesn’t approve of Hugill leaving Deepdale not just because of the talent he possess but also because of the timing of the transfer.
Nonetheless, Leeds United can definitely try to test Neil’s resolve. Leeds’ attackers have had a bad luck with injuries and an indifferent run of form. The likes of Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Pawel Cibicki and Jay-Roy Grot have flattered to deceive, as a result of which the Peacocks have found it hard to score goals on a regular basis. They do need a breath of freshness in their attack, which someone like Hugill can provide.
The 25-year-old is a clinical goal-getter who is very good in the air. He has the requisite pace and strength to outfox the defenders. Besides, he has mustered plenty of experience in English football and has the calibre to seamlessly lead Leeds United’s attack.
If the Championship outfit manage to secure his signature, he might turn out to be a very productive signing for them in their quest for promotion to the Premier League.
