Manchester United are in a three-way Premier League race with Arsenal and Chelsea for the signing of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The Red Devils sit 13th in the Premier League table, which is far below their usual standards. A lack of goals is one of many reasons for this slow start, and new head coach Ruben Amorim appears to be wanting to solve the issue in the next few transfer windows.
According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Dusan Vlahovic at Juventus. The Turin giants were confident of agreeing a new deal with the Serbian striker initially but are now planning to offer him an ultimatum. As his contract expires in 2026, the upcoming January transfer window or next summer will be Juventus’ last chance to cash him in.
Vlahovic is the highest earner in Serie A following the departures of Victor Osimhen and Paul Pogba, taking home over £200,000-a-week after tax. The Old Lady want the centre-forward, who has scored nine goals in 17 games this season, to accept a pay cut as part of a new contract. The report adds the 24-year-old, however, is unlikely to agree on such terms, leading to his potential departure in 2025.
Dusan Vlahovic to Manchester United—Should they go for him?
Manchester United had a 2023/24 season to forget despite winning the FA Cup under former boss Erik ten Hag. Scoring goals was a mighty issue, with Rasmus Hojlund tasked with shouldering the responsibility of leading the attack regularly after being bought for a big sum from Atalanta in the summer.
Owing to the Dane’s struggles scoring goals regularly for the Red Devils at such a young age, the club signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna during the past summer transfer window. However, Zirkzee has failed to make much of an impact at Old Trafford, netting only three goals in 15 league appearances thus far.
This may result in new boss Ruben Amorim turning to Vlahovic to help add some goals to his team. The Serbian international has been the subject of a lot of transfer talk in recent years, with some of the world’s biggest clubs being linked with a move, particularly after his exploits with previous employers Fiorentina.
He hasn’t particularly pulled up trees since arriving at Juventus a couple of years ago, but the striker is starting to show under new manager Thiago Motta that why he is so highly rated across the continent. The addition of Vlahovic could pump new life into Man United’s attack after their sluggish start to the campaign. He has netted 83 goals in 186 Serie A appearances, which is a healthy return for someone who is still light years away from hitting his peak.
Vlahovic has been in fantastic form in the Champions League this season with three goals and an assist in four games, which the 20-time English champions would be hoping for him to continue. It remains to be seen how much Juve would demand, but if the striker can replicate his form for United, it would be a fantastic price, and Vlahovic could be the man to return glory to Old Trafford.
