Liverpool closing in on RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita

Liverpool have reportedly taken a step closer to securing a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, according to Journalist Gabriele Marcotti. The diminutive midfielder had a stellar season with the newly promoted side and has attracted interested with his all-action displays at the middle of the pitch.

Liverpool are looking to strengthen almost every part of the pitch and with Champions League football, they can target the elite players. Having signed Mohamed Salah already for 36.9 million pounds, Klopp is willing to fork out a club record fee for Keita.

Reports and indicate he will cost the club around 70 million pounds, almost double the fee they paid for Salah. His ability to intercept a pass and start counter attacks has often been compared to that of Kanté and if the club can sign him, he could unlock the potential of Gini Wijnaldum and Emre Can in the attacking midfield roles.

Klopp’s side conceded a lot of goals last season and a main reason for that was the absence of a defensive minded midfielder. Keita can do that part well in the side and shield the defence well with his good positioning sense.

He also showed that he can attack with intent, so the club could have a really good, young player if they are willing to shell out the big bucks for him.
