Liverpool Eyeing A Move For Premier League Midfielder: Smart Option For Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool are interested in signing Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge in the summer. Berge moved to the Blades a year ago in the 2020 January transfer window from Genk.

As per Eurosport, the Reds are keen on signing the 23-year-old who will most likely leave the club as Sheffield United are destined for relegation to the Championship. Berge moved to the Premier League side for a fee of £22 million and has impressed in the 30 games that he has played for the club.

The Norwegian hasn’t played since December after undergoing surgery for a leg injury. In 30 appearances for the club in all competitions, Berge scored twice and assisted twice.

Sander Berge: A good option for Klopp?

Sander Berge is one of Norway’s most talented young footballers, alongside Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard. The 23-year-old is a tall and hard-working midfielder who is exceptional in the air, can move the ball forward, and be effective in both boxes.

Berge has averaged 1.2 tackles per game in the Premier League this season while making an average of 1.4 clearances. He is a midfielder who likes to run with the ball, averaging 1.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. Despite his 6’5″ frame, Berge is quick and agile with the ball at his feet and can cause trouble to opposition defences.

Liverpool have to strengthen next season as they have been found wanting in several areas across the pitch. Midfield could be one area where Jurgen Klopp will need to bring in new faces to freshen things up and take them back to winning ways. Georginio Wijnaldum is likely to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, while Alex Oxlade Chamberlain could also be on his way out as he has barely played this season.

This leaves Liverpool with one or two vacant spots in their squad for the midfield area, which is where Sander Berge could fit in. His great determination and zeal in the middle of the pitch fit in well with Klopp’s philosophy, while he is also at an age where he can develop further. Berge could be a solid squad player for Liverpool and eventually become a key player for the Reds and will be a good option for Klopp, who is likely to go shopping for defensive reinforcements and will need to spend smartly to bolster the rest of the squad.
