Premier League side Chelsea are keen on signing exciting young midfielder Sander Berge from Belgian side Genk.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder has been an important player for the Belgian side over the last two seasons, while also being vital for the Norwegian national team.
According to Goal, Chelsea could rival the likes of Napoli as well as Premier League side Liverpool for the signature of Berge.
The Norwegian’s contract with Genk expires in 2021, which could force the Belgian side to sell him if he does not sign a new contract.
Berge joined Genk from Vålerenga in 2017 and he has gone on to play over 100 times for the side. He has also become an important part of his national team, playing 20 times since debuting in 2017.
The defensive midfielder recently revealed that he would like to “play at Anfield as often as possible”, hinting at a potential move to the Premier League side.

Berge is a defensive midfielder whose performances on the pitch resemble that of an experienced player. The 21-year-old gets into the right positions to help his defence, while also covering areas that are vacated by teammates. He is composed while defending, often helping his teammates get out of sticky situations.
He is a solid defensive midfielder that can provide a firm shield to the back four. He has averaged 2.3 clearances per game in this season so far in the Champions League.
Berge, who stands at 6’5″, is very good in the air as well, averaging 1.8 aerial challenges won in this season’s Champions League.
He is not just a player who sits back and cleans things up, but can also start attacks with his neat passing. Berge has averaged 39 passes per game in the Champions League this season, and 3 long balls per game. He likes to move the ball forward with his dribbling and try to provide impetus from the back.
The Norwegian could be a useful signing in the Chelsea midfield as they currently do not possess a player that has the imposing presence that Berge has. He would complement the other midfielders that Chelsea have, and could develop into a solid player ahead of a porous Chelsea backline.
