Transfer story
Toulouse forward, Martin Braithwaite has revealed that he wants to leave this summer. That has put Southampton on high alert as they have been targeting the Danish striker.
The 25-year old striker told DR Sporten about his future plans, “The time to leave Toulouse has come. It will happen this summer.”
He has also fuelled rumours linking him with Southampton after saying that he would be interested in a Premier League switch.
“The Bundesliga and Premier League are great leagues and interesting for me”, he told DR Sporten.
The Saints will have a battle on their hands for his signature with others interested. West Ham, FC Koln and Crystal Palace are said to be interested clubs.
Braithwaite would only cost something in the region of £8million. The figure won’t put off Southampton as they look to reinforce their forward lines this summer.
Player stats
The Danish forward has featured 36 times for Toulouse this season. He scored 12 goals and registered 3 assists in those games.
Averaging almost 3 shots per game, Braithwaite is a striker who gets into good goal-scoring positions. He is also a contributor to the team averaging 0.7 key passes per game.
He has also created 23 chances in 34 Ligue 1 appearances this term. (Stats via Whoscored)
What’ll he offer to the club?
The 25-year old Danish striker’s work rate is what makes him a valuable addition to the squad. Braithwaite is an agile striker with a good goalscoring record.
He is a versatile player who can slot into midfield when required and will be a very good signing for a top division club as he guarantees goals.
Worth the money?
Martin Braithwaite will cost around a fee in the region of only £8 million. The fee is something clubs like Southampton, West Ham and Crystal Palace can easily afford in today’s world.
He is a player who can get into these teams and make a big impact. At £8 million, Braithwaite looks to be perfect forward with a good re-sale value.
The Dane can be the signing that Southampton need to challenge for a spot in Europe next season.
Southampton have missed the physical presence and goals of Graziano Pelle, who departed last summer. Pelle moved to China around this time last year and Braithwaite could be the missing piece of the jigsaw as the rest of the Saints strikers are simply too injury prone.
With West Ham and clubs from the Bundesliga interested, the Saints would have to act quickly if they are to sign the Danish attacker.
