Liverpool Target Refuses To Rule Out A Move: Why The Reds Should Break The Bank

The transfer window might be over, but as Jurgen Klopp revealed in a press conference a few days ago, Liverpool are working behind the scenes to assess players, and unsurprisingly, they have been linked with Timo Werner.

The RB Leipzig forward extended his contract with the club in the summer of 2019, but his good form has seen several big sides being linked with a move.

Werner spoke of the interest he is attracting and has hinted that he could move in the future, but for now, he is focusing on continuing his impressive form for Leipzig.

“When you score 20 goals as a 23-year-old in a season then, of course, there is interest. That’s clear,” Werner told Kicker (h/t Liverpool Echo).

“We are going into many important games. That’s what I want to focus on now. I can still contemplate my future later.”

Werner has managed an incredible 20 goals in 20 games for Leipzig in the Bundesliga this season, and his ability to play anywhere in the attack coupled with his deadly pace and finishing has made him a sought-after player.

Why Liverpool will need Timo Werner’s services next season and should sign him

Having collected an incredible 100 points from 102, Liverpool’s playing XI is perhaps the strongest in the world. However, their attack will need a bit of freshness next season due to the scheduling of certain competitions.

Liverpool will miss out on Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in January next season as the duo will be unavailable due to the AFCON, and their attack will look a bit lightweight in what will be a hectic period for the club.

While usurping Roberto Firmino is easier said than done due to the qualities he has, Werner would be a more potent option on either side of him as he can score goals, and not much will change despite him playing a bit wide.

Firmino’s ability to bring players around him into play means Werner will have an equal opportunity to score goals, so his starting position on paper doesn’t really matter much.

The only problem is with game time. Werner will demand regular playing time, so it remains to be seen how Klopp will rotate his attack.

Mind you, Werner’s passing isn’t bad either and he has managed six assists in addition to the 20 goals he has scored. He would thrive in a system like Liverpool’s, and the club should break the bank to sign him next summer.
