Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur have registered just two wins so far this season in all competitions. They lost on penalties to Colchester in the League Cup earlier this week and are fresh from a loss to Leicester City in the league last weekend. They face a tricky test this weekend when they welcome Southampton to Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Saturday.
The Saints lost to Bournemouth last week but put in a solid performance to knock Portsmouth out of the League Cup earlier this week. Ralph Hasenhuttl will believe that his side can take advantage of a Spurs side that is currently pretty low on confidence. Pochettino needs his stars to step up this weekend, to put an end to their miserable run of form in recent games.
Team News
Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon continue their rehabilitation and will miss this game. However, they remain the only absentees ahead of this tie for Pochettino.
PREDICTED TOTTENHAM LINEUP vs SOUTHAMPTON (4-2-2-2)
Defence
Hugo Lloris has not really been at his best so far this season. He has been exposed far too often but will need to put in a better performance this weekend to help his side dominate the game against Southampton.
He will start in goal and will be supported by a centre-back pairing of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, both of who were rested for the game against Colchester.
Danny Rose should be back in action at left-back while Serge Aurier, who has recently found some attacking form, will continue at right-back in the Tottenham lineup. They will have to keep the likes of Che Adams and Sofiane Boufal away from Lloris’ goal in this game.
Midfield
Harry Winks has been a regular in the first team this season. He was also rested for the League Cup game and should be back in the no.6 role in the Tottenham lineup. He will be supported by Moussa Sissoko, who will look to add some dynamism to the Spurs midfield.
Christian Eriksen needs to quickly find some form. His ability to create chances will be crucial for Spurs to keep Southampton penned back in their half. Dele Alli played full 90 minutes in the mid-week and could be replaced by Erik Lamela, who has to work hard to retain his place in the first team.
Attack
Harry Kane has two goals and an assist in his last three games for the club in all competitions. He will be up against a giant of a presence in Jannik Vestergaard and needs to be at the top of his game to test Angus Gunn in Southampton’s goal.
He will be supported by Heung Min-Son in the Tottenham lineup, who has probably been the most consistent attacker for Spurs so far in the league this season.
Due respect but worst line up yet eriksen offers the creativity of someone who had just joyfully experienced a lobotomy whilst being told it’s a brain enhancement sissoki and winks gave become predictable and get trapped in easy and again offer the forward movement of a snail we need the enthusiasm of moura and the freshness of ndombele
Remember the only definition of madness is to do the same thing but expect different results
