Barcelona are reportedly interested in letting go of one of their young players, Moussa Wague, in the January transfer window. The Catalan giants are keen on trimming their squad and have put many players on the transfer list.
According to Marca, Wague and 21-year-old Carles Aleñá are two players that the Spanish club are willing to let go of come January.
The report does not state whether the two young players will be sent on loan or a permanent deal. As per the same report, the likes of Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic, and Samuel Umtiti are on the transfer list as the Catalans secure funds to make another bid for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Neymar.
Wague joined Barcelona in 2018 and went on to play a season with the Barcelona B team before being promoted to the senior team later in the 2018-19 season.
The Senegal international was moved to the senior team this season but is yet to make an appearance this season.
The 20-year-old has played 18 times for the Senegal national team since making his debut in 2017 and has gone on to make 18 appearances, scoring one goal.
A wise move to sell Moussa Wague in January?
Wague offers something in defence and attack at right-back, showing great defensive awareness and aggression. The 20-year-old played three times for Barca last season, averaging two tackles per game and 1.3 interceptions.
The youngster is also very useful in attack with his pace and overlapping runs causing trouble to the opposition’s defence. Wague’s acceleration can catch the opposition off guard.
Barcelona are a team in transition, adding a few young players to their team over the last two seasons. One position that they strengthened two years ago was at right-back when they brought in Nelson Semedo from Benfica, who has now become Barca’s first-choice right-back.
Wague will find it difficult to dispossess Semedo from his right-back slot anytime soon, so he must be let go to play a season on loan and return to challenge Semedo.
Barcelona have an able backup in Sergi Roberto as the second-choice option after Semedo at right-back, which means that they won’t be weak in that department if Semedo is injured or suspended.
Wague is an exciting talent and needs to be given the opportunity at Barcelona after he is sent on loan.
