‘Let’s Talk About Six, Baby’: Liverpool Players Rated In Historic Win vs Tottenham Hotspur

”Let’s talk about six, baby!”

That is exactly what Jurgen Klopp wanted to ‘talk‘ about in the immediate aftermath of the historic win against Tottenham Hotspur at Wanda Metropolitano.

The showpiece event in Madrid concluded with Liverpool lifting their sixth Champions League title. Let’s take a look at the Liverpool player ratings in their win over north London club Tottenham Hotspur.

Alisson Becker(8/10): The Brazilian goalkeeper didn’t have much to do on the night until the 80th minute when he had to make two back to back saves to maintain Liverpool’s one-goal advantage. Alisson made eight saves in total including a fine one from Eriksen’s free-kick which was goal bound.

Trent Alexander-Arnold(7.5/10): The 20-year-old was once again prolific in his runs and crossing but none of it affected the scoreline. Trent also had one shot on goal which almost caught Hugo Lloris by surprise missing the far post by few inches.

Joel Matip(8/10): The Cameroonian was magnificent on the night and complemented Virgil Van Dijk perfectly at the heart of the Liverpool defence. Matip also assisted the second goal of the game which finally put the game to bed.

Virgil Van Dijk(8/10): The Dutch international had another complete performance both on the ground and in the air, keeping Spurs at bay for the entirety of the 90 minutes. His tackle to stop Son Heung-Min in the 75th minute was vital in Liverpool enjoying European glory at the end of the 90 minutes.

Andrew Robertson(7.5/10): Another fine performance by the Scottish international who fizzed in some delicious crosses from the left flank. The 25-year-old also troubled Lloris at the end of the first half with a thundering shot from outside the box.

Jordan Henderson(7/10): The Liverpool captain was a force to reckon with in the centre of the pitch. He won all of his 3 tackles, won 5 out of his 8 duels and managed 2 interceptions on the night. Henderson was the pick of the Reds midfield even though he dragged a good opportunity wide of the post.

Fabinho(6/10): The Brazilian was nowhere near his usual self and had a subpar performance on the night.

Georginio Wijnaldum(6/10): The Dutch international was another individual who wasn’t up to the mark in midfield despite having a 100% pass accuracy. However, he did deliver one lovely pass for Salah but was taken off by Klopp for James Milner just after the 62-minute mark.

Sadio Mane(8/10): The Senegalese international took charge of the game from the very first minute and earned a penalty for his side when his cross ricocheted off Moussa Sissoko’s arm. He was a constant threat for Kieran Trippier in the final third and was the preferred destination for the early out balls.

Mohamed Salah(7/10): Somewhat off his usual game, Salah still managed a goal on the night and more so with his first touch. His 2nd-minute penalty gave Liverpool an early advantage from where Spurs found it difficult to recover for the entirety of the 90 minutes.

Roberto Firmino(5.5/10): The Brazilian made a comeback on the night after missing the latter games of the season and it showed. Firmino had a nightmare 58 minutes with very little impact on the game and was taken off before the hour mark.

Substitutes

Divock Origi(7.5/10): The Belgian proved to be a super-sub once again and repaid the German’s trust in him in full. Full of energy on the night, he put the game to bed in the 87th minute with his only shot of the game. His impeccable finish left Lloris stranded and helpless.

James Milner(6/10): Milner had an opportunity to put the game to bed just 7 minutes after coming on the pitch but saw his shot miss the frame of the goal by a few centimetres leaving Lloris with his heart in his mouth. He gave away a free-kick in a very dangerous position just inches outside the box.

Joe Gomez(NA): Gomez came on in the 90th minute with 5 minutes of additional time left and had very little to do other than clear the ball. He did make sure to suppress any chances of a Spurs comeback.
