Latest: Arsenal Star Addresses Shock Retirement Claims

Stephan Lichtsteiner made the switch from Juventus to Arsenal this past transfer window but is yet to start in the Premier League for the Gunners. Unai Emery has preferred to use Hector Bellerin in the right-back slot.

With Bellerin ahead in the pecking order, reports had emerged in Switzerland recently that Lichtsteiner could be on the verge to announce his retirement from the game.

However, the 34-year-old has rubbished such claims and has stated that he is ready to fight for his place at Arsenal.

Speaking to Sportal, he said, “I could have changed to five other clubs in the summer, knowing that I would certainly play 47 out of 50 serious matches. It doesn’t irritate me, as in 2011, when I moved to Juventus, I wanted to join a big club. I was looking for a demanding challenge in a new league.”
