Jack Wilshere might have been one of the most loved players during his time at Arsenal but destiny had other things in store for the English international. Wilshere’s contract with the Gunners ended at the end of the previous campaign and a new deal failed to materialize.
After Unai Emery replaced Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, Wilshere made a free transfer to the ranks of West Ham United. Under the tutelage of Manuel Pellegrini, the Hammers made a lot of new signings during the summer transfer window, including Wilshere’s former Arsenal squad-mate Lucas Perez.
Perez signed for Arsenal in the summer of 2016 from Deportivo La Coruna but he couldn’t really find his feet in English football. After a stuttering 2016-17 campaign under Wenger, he was shipped out on loan to his former employers and the 29-year-old managed to score 8 goals in 35 appearances in La Liga.
Apparently, Wilshere is keen to share the match-day pitch with Perez for the first time very soon. Although these two had shared the training ground at Arsenal, they never played any competitive game together as Wilshere had spent the 2016-17 season on loan with Bournemouth and Perez was at Deportivo La Coruna last term.
Speaking to West Ham United’s official website, Wilshere said: He’s (Perez) calm in front of goal, he can finish, he’s got a personality on the pitch, he’s got character and I’m looking forward to finally getting to play alongside him, you know. We’ve been teammates, if you like, for the last two and a bit seasons, but we’ve never played a game together so I’m looking forward to it.”
