Everton finished 8th last season but often played uninspiring football. Earlier in the summer, Everton appointed highly-rated manager Marco Silva and the Portuguese has had a good transfer window and is looking forward to the game tomorrow.
Team News
Everton have been successful in retaining their prized asset Pickford and have made eight summer signings.
Mason Holgate is out with Achilles tendinitis while James McCarthy is out with a broken leg. Bernard, Zouma, Mina and Gomes are unavailable for selection.
PREDICTED EVERTON LINEUP VS WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS (4-3-3)
Defence
Jordan Pickford is likely to take up his rightful place in goal after a tremendous outing with the Three Lions over the summer.
Michael Keane and Phil Jagielka will start in the centre of defence offering an ideal blend of youth and experience. Seamus Coleman should start on the right while new signing Lucas Digne might make his debut by starting against Wolves in the left back position.
The fullbacks will look to maintain width and contribute to the new look Everton attack.
Midfield
Marco Silva is expected to stick to his preferred 4-3-3 formation. Idrissa Gueye could play as the defensive midfielder in this system and will be tasked with breaking up attacks using his exemplary tackling ability.
Tom Davies should play on the right of a midfield three. His high energy pressing will come in handy for Silva and the player will like to make a positive impact before the new signings get their turn.
Gylfi Sigurdsson might be afforded a role in the midfield akin to a role Coutinho had at Liverpool before his move to Barcelona.
Attack
Goalscoring was a huge problem for Everton last season as they netted only 44 times in the Premier League. Cenk Tosun will spearhead Everton’s attack and the onus will be on him to provide the goals this year.
Summer signing Richarlison is expected to start on the left and many would expect him to hit the ground running. He has Premier League experience under his belt and has previously played his best football under Marco Silva. Theo Walcott will complete the front three by lining up on the right flank.
The former Arsenal man has pace to burn and is an excellent finisher. He makes dangerous runs in behind the defence and is a threat on the counter. He would certainly add another dimension to this Everton side.
