Perez Gets a 9: Newcastle United Player Ratings In 2-1 Win Over Leicester City

Newcastle United travelled to Leicester City earlier today and managed to bag all three points in a match which gave the travelling supporters a lot to cheer about. Jonjo Shelvey gave the Magpies an early lead which was doubled by Ayoze Perez in the second-half. Jamie Vardy curtailed the lead after being assisted by Shinji Okazaki but it was a too little too late for the Foxes.

Here is how we rated Rafael Benitez’s men from their 2-1 win over Claude Puel’s troops.

Martin Dubravka 8/10

The home side tested Dubravka time and again but the custodian managed to keep his composure and made some really good saves.

DeAndre Yedlin 8/10

Yedlin galloped forward time and again and tracked back with relative ease to cater to his defensive duties. He made some crucial blocks to save the blushes of his side.

Jamaal Lascelles 8/10

Led the back line meticulously and made as many as 11 clearances. He imposed himself on the game and was very sound while making decisions in crunch situations.

Florian Lejeune 8/10

The centre-back was rock-solid and gave his all in the fixture. He was dominant more often than not and assisted Perez for the second goal.

Paul Dummett 7/10

Dummett was not too involved up the field but he catered to his defensive duties in a meticulous fashion as he made some shrewd blocks and interceptions.

Matt Ritchie 7/10

He went forward on a regular basis and made some notable defensive contributions as well. Ritchie looked up for the task today and gave his all on the pitch.

Mohamed Diame 8/10

Diame imposed his presence in the middle of the park and broke down many attacking pursuits of Puel’s men. He did put in some measured challenges and his confidence level was sky high.

Jonjo Shelvey 8/10

Shelvey’s cunning strike gave the Toon the lead early on and he kept making some driving runs to create havoc in Leicester City’s back line.

Kenedy 7/10

The Chelsea loanee was unplayable at times in the first-half, thanks to his pace and brilliant movement. However, he looked tired in the second-half.

Ayoze Perez 9/10

Perez assisted Shelvey and found the back of the net himself as well and it was a reward for his relentless toil in the final third. He created a lot of chances and backed the striker adequately.

Dwight Gayle 7/10

The striker did showcase his work-ethic but the final output that was desired from him was missing.

Substitutions:

Christian Atsu 7/10

Atsu rightfully replaced Kenedy just a few minutes after the hour mark and did inject some freshness in the opposition’s half.

Joselu 6/10

He replaced Gayle with 20 minutes left on the clock and did what he was asked to do.

Isaac Hayden 6/10

Hayden came on for Diame late in the second-half and helped his side in maintaining their dominance in the middle of the park.
