As per latest reports by The Scottish Sun, Celtic are keeping close tabs on Werder Bremen striker, Lennart Thy. Thy is currently plying his trade for Eredivisie outfit, VVV-Venlo, on loan from Werder Bremen and the Scottish side had sent scouts to watch him play against FC Twente a couple of days ago.
Lennart Thy – Fact File
Thy emerged through the youth ranks of Werder Bremen and after a few seasons with Werder Bremen II side, he was promoted to the senior squad. However, he struggled to cement his place and thus made a move to FC St. Pauli in 2012. He did make an impact with the German outfit and then returned to the Weserstadion in the summer of 2016.
He couldn’t impress after his return, however, and was shipped out on loan to FC St. Pauli for the second half of the 2016-17 campaign. In the summer transfer window of 2017, he was shipped out on loan yet again, this time to VVV-Venlo. There is no denying that his career has seen ups and downs, but he has really made an impact in the Dutch top-flight this season.
A centre-forward by trade, Thy is a strong player who loves to pass the ball around to create chances for his teammates and holds the ball well up front. Although his finishing needs more improvement, the 26-year-old can trouble the opposition’s back line with his pace and movement.
Do Celtic need him?
The German striker has managed to find the back of the net on 7 occasions this season in 28 appearances in the Eredivisie and has also notched up 5 assists to his name. This season, Celtic might not have been as stupendous as they were in the previous one, but they are all set to clinch the Scottish Premiership title yet again.
Although the Bhoys have Moussa Dembele in their ranks, the French striker is likely to be pursued by some of the top clubs on the continent and thus, it would make a lot of sense if Brendan Rodgers starts looking for a replacement.
Thy has the potential to be a good player and it would be intriguing to see whether he manages to impress in the remaining games for Celtic to launch a bid in the summer.
