Berserk but at the same time tantalising. Pep has been given one of the biggest transfer kitties among Europe’s elite clubs and the Spanish manager has put it to the best of use. With the curtains soon to drop on the current season, Pep seems to have been making plans for the next campaign already.
According to shocking reports, Manchester City are keen to bring in Spanish legend, Andres Iniesta to the Premier League. Pep and Iniesta have a great relationship having worked together for 4 years in Guardiola’s time at Barcelona where they won countless silverware.
Is Iniesta still fresh enough for the English game?
Aged 33, the Spaniard is edging closer to the final stages of his career. While many have chosen the lesser competitive leagues in the likes of the MLS or the Chinese League in recent times, the Premier League could come calling to witness the magician at play.
The English game is quite different from the Spanish one. A high requirement in physicality and pace is what the game demands and for a player reaching his mid 30’s, these requirements could be slightly above expectations. Nevertheless, such is the skill and flair the La Masia graduate possesses that it could compensate for the lacking physicality and pace.
Tailor Made For Manchester City?
Pep for Iniesta, Iniesta for Pep. This pretty much sums up the chemistry that the two possess. Having injected the Barcelona style of play at the Etihad, there is none more accustomed to this style than the Spanish Midfielder. As long as Pep is at the helm, fitting Iniesta into the light blue outfit would be a fairly easy task, unlike those who have to learn the trade in order to flourish in this Manchester City side.
Earlier, having spoken about physicality and the pace that the Premier League possesses, it could be a test. However, The Citizens have dominated their opponents in terms of possession, and hence, that should not be much of a worry for Iniesta. This fact is much evident in their record-breaking 975 passes against the current Champions Chelsea where Ilkay Gundogan broke the record for most number of passes (167) whilst also making 2 tackles.
Considering these points, Iniesta would just slot into this Manchester City side perfectly given that he is a pass master himself.
Is it a necessity for Pep?
There is no doubt that Iniesta would do well under Pep at Manchester City, but is this a move that is essential for Guardiola? Little do we know regarding Iniesta’s time left at the very top and with a host of talent at Pep’s disposal, this move might not be worth making. While Iniesta brings in abundance of experience, City do have players who tick this box as well with the likes of Kompany, Toure and Silva. Albeit, the experience that this stalwart brings is quite unique and undefined.
Do you think Pep should make a move for the Barcelona legend?
