Burnley interested in Aston Villa midfielder Aaron Ramsey- Right option?

Newly promoted Burnley are reportedly in advanced talks with Aston Villa for the signing of Aaron Ramsey.

The Clarets have been busy reshaping their squad upon their return to the Premier League. They have made nine signings, including Zeki Amdouni, James Trafford, Nathan Redmond and Dara O’Shea. The loan deals of Michael Obafemi and Jordan Beyer have also been turned into permanent moves, yet with still over three weeks left for the transfer window to slam shut, Vincent Kompany remains optimistic for a few more additions.

According to The Athletic, Burnley and Aston Villa are progressing positively over a deal worth £12m for youngster Aaron Ramsey.

Ramsey, 20, impressed last season in loan spells in the Championship with Norwich City and Middlesbrough. He made 29 appearances in the second tier across both spells, scoring eight goals. The England Under-20 international has not made a Premier League appearance for Aston Villa so far but was a member of the 2021 Youth Cup-winning squad.

Aaron Ramsey to Burnley—Right option?

With Burnley now back with the big boys, Vincent Kompany and the club’s top officials are working day and night to make the squad robust enough to survive in the Premier League. Despite signing as many as nine players, the Clarets’ boss is seemingly not satisfied and wants more new recruits this summer.

Among one of his priorities is an attacking midfielder as Kompany looks to improve Burnley’s productivity in front of goal in the Premier League. The Belgian tactician has set his sights on Aston Villa’s Aaron Ramsey, who is a highly-rated talent in England but unfortunately, it looks like he has fallen behind in the pecking order at Villa Park.

The 20-year-old’s prospects of breaking into the senior Aston Villa side this season has been majorly hit following the arrival of Youri Tielemans on a free transfer from Leicester City earlier this summer. The England Under-20 international did well on loan in the Championship last season and needs to play regularly if he is to continue developing. Thus, a move to Burnley seems like a brilliant move for all parties involved.

Under an astute tactician like Kompany, Ramsey will get to play regularly and fulfil his massive potential. The youngster scored eight goals across loan spells with Norwich and Middlesbrough last term, and Kompany will hope he can go some way to replacing the goals and creativity provided by Nathan Tella in their Championship title-winning campaign.

All in all, Ramsey could be a fantastic investment by the Clarets if they end up getting a deal over the line, with the young English prospect ticking so many boxes, in terms of what they are looking for this summer.
