Tottenham are among a few clubs reportedly interested in Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso.
Andrea Cambiaso, 23, had several successful loan spells during his time as a Genoa player before joining Juventus for €8.8million in the summer of 2022. The young defender was instantly farmed out on loan to Bologna, for whom he played 32 times in Serie A last term, registering three assists. He has returned to Juventus after the end of a successful loan spell with Bologna.
According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Tottenham have established initial contacts with the representatives of Andrea Cambiaso, who is also on the radar of Nottingham Forest and AC Milan. Meanwhile, Bologna have expressed an interest in taking the full-back on loan for another season.
Juventus are facing financial problems this summer and, as a result, are open to letting Cambiaso leave on a permanent basis. Amidst interest from many clubs in Europe, the report adds the Old Lady are asking for at least €20m for the Italy Under-21 international.
Andrea Cambiaso to Tottenham—A good long-term investment?
Tottenham have enjoyed an exciting transfer window so far, with players such as James Maddison, Manor Solomon and Guglielmo Vicario arriving at the club while Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski signing permanently from Sporting CP and Juventus, respectively. It looks like now the north Londoners are focusing on reinforcing their defensive options after conceding 63 goals in the Premier League last term.
Signing a quality partner for central defender Cristian Romero is Ange Postecoglou’s top priority before the transfer window slams shut. In addition, he is also on the lookout for a full-back and has seemingly set his sights on Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso.
A left-back by trade, Cambiaso’s extremely versatile nature allows him to operate at right-back, wing-back and in central midfield. Such versatility will be a bonus for Postecoglou’s side, who are crying out for quality reinforcements. The Italian looks ideal to give Spurs more options at full-back, with Ivan Perisic well past his prime and Ryan Sessegnon yet to prove his fitness.
The opportunity to play for Spurs will be an attractive option for the 23-year-old as well. Cambiaso would challenge for a spot in Postecoglou’s starting XI while being a valuable squad option. He is fresh and dynamic, so adding a young player with potential will not only benefit Spurs now but also in the future.
Given their woes at the back last season, the north Londoners need to tighten up defensively if they want to get back into the top four and qualify for the Champions League once again. And a player like Cambiaso would be an astute addition to the Spurs rearguard.
