Should Manchester United Go All In For Harry Kane?

Harry Kane has been linked with a move away from Tottenham, with Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag reportedly a bid admirer of his talents.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy remains firm on not parting ways with his biggest asset whilst Man United remain keen to recruit him. The English striker, 29, has a contract with Spurs until 2024, but with the north London club failing to qualify for Europe this season, he could leave this summer.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made Harry Kane his summer transfer window’s No.1 priority. Real Madrid are also interested in the Spurs skipper as they look to replace the recently-departed Karim Benzema ahead of the new campaign.

Kane, 29, enjoyed another prolific campaign in the Premier League, scoring 30 goals and supplying three assists in 38 appearances. He was undoubtedly the best player in a hugely disappointing past season for Spurs and only finished second to Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot.

Harry Kane to Manchester United—Should the Red Devils go all in for him?

Manchester United want to close the with their rivals Manchester City, and for that to happen, they will need an excellent transfer window. Last summer the club spent £205 million on new recruits, as the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony walked through the Old Trafford doors. And, after guiding the Red Devils back to the Champions League, Ten Hag is dreaming of another summer of massive improvement.

Ten Hag has made the signing of a top striker one of his top priorities on the back of a season that saw Man United score only 58 goals in the Premier League—the least among the top six. Beyond Marcus Rashford, goals were hard to come by and the Reds’ lack of a clinical No.9 stalled their progress when it really mattered.

A striker like Harry Kane could completely change the landscape of Man United. The 29-year-old is an elite striker, having been a consistent source of goals for Spurs ever since his breakthrough in the 2014-15 campaign. He netted 30 times this past campaign in a mediocre Spurs side, and his world-class goalscoring ability would make him an instant upgrade on Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst.

In terms of his style of play, Kane is a lot more than just a goalscorer. He likes to drop deeper in midfield, make space for himself and use his technical skills and vision to find teammates in the final third. The 29-year-old is a top chance-creator, whilst his ruthless finishing in front of goal would take United back to the elite level.

Kane next to Rashford has the potential to be one of the deadliest partnerships in Europe, and it is no wonder why Ten Hag is striving hard to get the striker’s signature. While Levy’s plan is to keep hold of Kane again, it’s still worth putting in a bid and seeing if the north London club are prepared to risk losing their talisman on a free transfer in 2024.

That said, if there is even the slightest chance that United could strike a deal up for the England international this summer they should go all out for him by paying the premium, as his world-class finishing ability, vision, creativity, work rate and leadership skills could solve Ten Hag’s biggest area of concern next term.
