Predicted Manchester United XI with their new signings and Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund reportedly arrived in Manchester on Tuesday afternoon to complete his move to Manchester United.

According to The Sun, Manchester United will pay Atalanta an initial fee of £64m with a further £8m potentially on add-ons for Rasmus Hojlund, who will pen a bumper five-year deal at Old Trafford with an option of another year. He was set to undergo medical tests at his new club on Tuesday.

The Denmark international, 20, netted nine goals in 32 league games for Atalanta last season after his move from Austrian outfit Sturm Graz. He also has six goals in as many games for the national team, with the youngster’s attributes and style of play drawing comparisons with Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland.

Hojlund is expected to be at Carrington on Wednesday to finalise the move to Man United. He will become the club’s third signing of the summer transfer window after the arrivals of Mason Mount and Andre Onana. With that being said, here is the predicted Man United XI with their new signings and Hojlund.

Predicted Manchester United Lineup with their new signings (4-2-3-1)

Goalkeeper

David de Gea served Man United very well for 11 years, but Erik ten Hag decided it was the right time to sign an upgrade on him. As a result, De Gea was released upon the expiry of his contract in the summer and has been replaced by Andre Onana.

Onana, signed from Inter Milan for an initial fee of £47.2m, has made a couple of appearances for the Red Devils in their pre-season tour of the United States, impressing with his ball-playing ability and distribution skills. The Cameroonian is the club’s new No.1.

Defence

In front of Onana, Raphael Varane will function alongside Lisandro Martinez at the heart of Man United’s defence. Luke Shaw was among the club’s most consistent performers last season and should keep his place at left-back, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is now favoured ahead of Diogo Dalot for the right-back spot.

Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia will provide cover for the defensive positions.

Midfield

Casemiro made a huge difference to United last season, transforming their midfield with his positional awareness, defensive nous and leadership skills. He is certain to essay the No.6 role for Ten Hag’s side in the upcoming season.

Partnering Casemiro in the double pivot is likely to be Mason Mount, who has joined United for an initial £55m from Chelsea. In terms of energy and pressing, Mount is an instant upgrade on Christian Eriksen. While Eriksen did a good job alongside Casemiro last season, dictating United’s play with his incisive passing and intelligence, it will be interesting to watch how effective Mount can be from a deeper midfield role.

football formations

Having replaced Maguire as the permanent skipper of United last month, Bruno Fernandes will have a bigger responsibility from next season. The beating heart of Ten Hag’s side, the Portuguese will look to combine well with Mount and create opportunities in the final third. He’s a sure-shot starter in his preferred No.10 role.

Attack

Marcus Rashford was United’s top scorer last season with 30 goals in all formats, thriving through the middle as the No.9. However, with Hojlund on the brink of joining the club, Rashford is likely to be moved on the left flank with Antony operating from the opposite wing.

Ten Hag will get his wish fulfilled as Hojlund joins the club. The Dane will take up the No.9 role which is up for grabs and provide the Red Devils with a focal point in attack. The United boss will hope to see the youngster hit the ground running in the Premier League and increase his team’s productivity in front of goal.
