Newcastle United Ready To Splash €60m To Sign Serie A Superstar

Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a sensational swoop for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.

Juventus missing out on Champions League qualification has had huge ramifications on their finances, leaving the club with no option but to sell some valuable players in the squad to raise cash. Due to financial difficulties, they are open to listening to offers for Federico Chiesa

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Newcastle United are among a host of clubs keen on signing Federico Chiesa. The Italy international has been with the Turin giants for the past three years, but there is a possibility that he could leave this summer due to the lack of progress over a new deal.

Chiesa, 25, suffered an unfortunate serious cruciate ligament injury which ruled him out for a lengthy spell. The 25-year-old was being eased back into the first-team fold by Max Allegri this term and, despite only starting six Serie A games this term, the winger did manage two goals and five assists along the way.

However, Chiesa is no longer untouchable in Turin and the club are more than ready to offload him if a tempting offer arrives. The report adds Juventus want €60m for the Italy international, whose contract expires in 2025.

Federico Chiesa to Newcastle United—Smashing option for the club?

Newcastle United have already made a statement by signing Sandro Tonali from AC Milan, with the midfielder’s involvement in the Under-21 Euros delaying the formal announcement of his transfer. And it appears they are set to raid the Italian market again, as Eddie Howe eyes a shock move for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.

Chiesa joined Juventus from Italian rivals Fiorentina back in 2020 and proved himself as one of the top players in Serie A. Before suffering a terrible ACL injury in January 2022, he was in sensational form and had been instrumental in Italy’s triumph in the European Championships the previous summer. The 25-year-old wideman had scored 18 goals and registered 14 assists across the season-and-a-half before the injury setback.

Upon returning from a long injury layoff, Chiesa faced difficulties in keeping himself fit and managed only 21 league appearances. However, he impressed in the closing weeks of the 2022/23 season, registering two goals and as many assists from his final five league matches, and the Italian will be desperate to find his lost mojo.

And Chiesa could do just that at Newcastle, slotting into an exciting and attacking side that will compete in the Champions League next term. He can play anywhere in attack, and such versatility combined with his speed, vision, creativity and goal-scoring ability, would render him an invaluable addition at St James’ Park.

With the ex-Fiorentina star yet to hit his best form after returning from a serious knee injury, it is a scary prospect for the opposition to imagine just how potent he could yet become, and at Newcastle under Howe, Chiesa could thrive and unlock his potential which he failed to do so in Juventus colours. Thus, the Magpies must go all out and sign Chiesa this summer.
