Conte Interested In A Reunion With Serie A Defensive Rock: Ideal Option For Tottenham?

Tottenham Hotspur are among a few Premier League clubs interested in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar amidst ongoing contract issues.

Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta had claimed he was confident of striking a deal with the Slovakian defender by November 13, but a lot of clubs have been alerted ahead of the January transfer window after the self-imposed deadline passed.

According to 90min, Tottenham are firmly in the mix to sign Inter Milan contract rebel Milan Skriniar, who is also courted by Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Skriniar, 27, is into the final seven months of his contract with Inter, meaning clubs from abroad could either make a cut-price swoop for him in January or try and sign him on a Bosman transfer in the summer of 2023.

Every single club of the Premier League “big six” are said to be in contact with the 27-year-old centre-back’s agent at the moment and are asking to be kept informed of his potential availability in January, the report adds.

Milan Skriniar to Tottenham—The right man for Antonio Conte?

Milan Skriniar has been consistently solid for Inter Milan ever since arriving from Sampdoria back in 2017. The Slovakian international has clocked close to 240 appearances for the Nerazzurri, scoring 11 goals.

The 27-year-old is enjoying another fine campaign with Inter and has played 21 times already in all competitions. Skriniar has marshalled Inter’s backline well by averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.7 dribbles and 0.9 aerial duels won per game in Serie A. He has been tidy with his distribution skills, as evidenced by a healthy 92.1% pass completion rate (stats via WhoScored).

The big Slovak can get stuck in with some crunching tackles and interceptions to stop the opposition from advancing into his team’s box. A good reader of the game, Skriniar is often quick to spot the danger and snuff it out before it grows bigger. He doesn’t hesitate to put his body on the line to stop his team from conceding goals.

Strong, tenacious and physically intimidating with excellent composure on the ball, Skriniar would add more steel and quality to Tottenham’s backline. Antonio Conte knows the player in and out having managed him at Inter, and could get the best out of him again at Spurs if a move goes through. The ex-Sampdoria man would be a great fit in Conte’s back-three system, whilst being an upgrade on Eric Dier.

At 27, the Slovakian international is currently playing at the peak of his career and has the required qualities to make an instant impact at the north London club. As his contract with Inter is set to expire at the end of the season, Tottenham must step up their pursuit and try signing Milan Skriniar in January itself on a cut-price deal.
