Tottenham Hotspur Players Rated And Slated In Deflating 3-1 Loss To Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur’s awful record at the Emirates Stadium continued on Saturday afternoon as Arsenal registered a 3-1 win over their neighbours and stretched their lead to four points at the top of the Premier League table.

Spurs went behind in the 20th minute when Thomas Partey rifled home a screamer from outside the box past a hapless Hugo Lloris. But 11 minutes later, they were level thanks to a cool penalty from Harry Kane, after Richarlison was hacked inside the box by Gabriel.

Minutes into the second half, Spurs were behind again as Lloris’ mistake while gathering Bukayo Saka’s shot saw Gabriel Jesus pounce and score. Things went from bad to worse when Emerson Royal was dismissed for an ugly tackle on Gabriel Martinelli.

Granit Xhaka made it 3-1 in quick time by scoring past Lloris from inside the box, sealing a memorable result for the Gunners. On that note, let us take a look at how the Tottenham players fared in their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby.

Tottenham Player Ratings vs Arsenal

Hugo Lloris- 3/10

Made an early save from Gabriel Martinelli. Had no chance with Partey’s curling effort from outside the box. The Frenchman was culpable for giving Arsenal a 2-1 lead as he made a mess with Romero to gift Jesus a goal. Made a late low save from Tierney.

Cristian Romero- 4/10

Strong in the air and tenacious in the challenge, Cristian Romero was in battle with Jesus from the first minute. Was partly guilty for Arsenal’s second goal before Martinelli easily drifted past him in the build-up to the third goal.

Eric Dier- 4/10

Lost his concentration for Arsenal’s third goal, leaving a large gap for Xhaka to fire the ball past Lloris. Some mixed defending from an experienced player.

Clement Lenglet- 6/10

Was Spurs’ best defender on the day. Was partly guilty in the build-up to Arsenal’s second goal as he gave too much space for Saka to shoot. Overall, though, Lenglet had a solid outing.

Emerson Royal- 2/10

Offered very little both defensively and offensively. Made an unnecessary challenge on Martinelli from behind to get sent off. Very poor!

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg- 4/10

Was bullied by Partey in the middle of the park. Looked well off his best in the afternoon.

Rodrigo Bentancur- 5/10

Certainly better than his midfield partner, Hojbjerg. Did well in recycling possession when required and made a telling impact.

Ivan Perisic- 5/10

Showed great energy to bomb up and down the left flank while keeping Saka quiet in the first half. But looked jaded after the break and was subbed off.

Richarlison- 5/10

Was a constant pest in the first half for Arsenal and smartly earned a penalty. Didn’t do much in the second half.

Heung-min Son- 5/10

Son was a constant threat on the counter attack but struggled to link up with Kane and Richarlison when Spurs wanted some composure.

Harry Kane- 6/10

Dropped deep to pick passes and create openings for his fellow forwards. Took his penalty well and showed some nice touches on the ball. Faded in the second half.

Substitutes

Ryan Sessegnon- 4/10

Replaced Perisic with 15 minutes left on the watch and held his own well to stop the Arsenal attacks.

Matt Doherty- 4/10

Was often found defending as it was difficult for him to get forward due to Spurs’ numerical disadvantage.

Yves Bissouma- 4/10

Slotted into midfield in front of the defence and helped prevent any further damage.

Davinson Sanchez- 4/10

Replaced Lenglet at the back and defended well.

Oliver Skipp- N/A
