Huge Change In Midfield: 4-1-2-3 Man United Predicted Lineup vs Southampton

Manchester United will travel to the St Mary’s Stadium to face Southampton today looking to make it two wins on the bounce in the Premier League.

The Red Devils bounced back from successive defeats to Brighton and Brentford with a 2-1 win over arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday, handing Erik ten Hag his first competitive win as the club’s boss. Goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford set the tone for an impressive display and result that helped Man United leapfrog Liverpool in the points table.

In what will be the weekend’s opening fixture, Erik ten Hag will expect his team to back it up against Southampton, who head into the game off the back of a 3-0 victory over Cambridge United in the Carabao Cup.

Manchester United Team News

Victor Lindelof is yet to return to the training pitch for Manchester United, so he remains out for now along with Brandon Williams. Facundo Pellestri has been ruled out with an ankle injury until September.

Anthony Martial has once again been ruled out of the match by the manager as he suffered an Achillles injury on his comeback from a hamstring strain against Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Casemiro was presented to the Old Trafford crowd before Monday’s game, and with his visa formalities complete now, he will expect to be straightaway included into the Man United lineup.

Predicted Man United lineup vs Southampton (4-1-2-3)

Goalkeeper

After conceding four at Brentford, David de Gea delivered a strong performance against Liverpool as he made a couple of key saves. He is a certainty to start in goal on Saturday, as the Spaniard awaits his first clean sheet of the season.

Defence

Ten Hag sent a strong statement by dropping Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw from his team that was outclassed by Brentford last weekend, and it paid off. Replacing Maguire and Shaw were Raphael Varane and Tyrell Malacia respectively, and the duo along with Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot, delivered colossal performances at the back that kept the Liverpool attackers at bay for the majority of the game.

Having seen a back four look as solid as they have been since the start of the campaign, Ten Hag is unlikely to make any changes at the back in the Man United lineup against Southampton.

Midfield

While the midfield was mostly solid against the Reds, there will be a definite temptation to include Casemiro into the Man United lineup. He is likely to replace Scott McTominay at the base of the midfield.

The duo of Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes will be stationed slightly ahead of him. United will be expected to dominate the midfield against the Saints which will likely see McTominay and Fred miss out.

Attack

The Cristiano Ronaldo dilemma continues and while a poacher in the penalty box will be useful, the superstar might have to again settle for a place on the bench.

Martial’s injury means Anthony Elanga might once again get an opportunity on the left flank in the Man United lineup.

Jadon Sancho will continue on the right while Marcus Rashford will lead the Man United lineup in this case.
