Barcelona want to sign Argentine goal machine

Barcelona are back in the race to sign Lautaro Martinez.

As per a report from Sport, Barca are looking at Martinez, again, to bolster their attack for next season. The Argentinian striker has scored 15 goals and has provided three assists from 28 appearances for Inter this season.

Martinez, 24, was extremely close to securing a move to the Blaugrana two years back. But, the club’s financial difficulties meant that he was way out of their range. However, now, the former La Liga champions have recognized the urgent need of landing a striker, for the next season.

Sport understands that Inter will be willing to lower their asking fee for Martinez for players in return. Inter are interested in Pjanic and Depay and the duo could enter the frame. Especially if they are considered surplus by Xavi.

Barca see Martinez as a cheaper alternative to Lewandowski and Haaland. Also, he is young and a good option for the future.

The finisher they need?

Lautaro Martinez is an extremely capable and smart player. He understands space utilization well and can flourish in closed spaces. In recent games, Aubameyang’s inability to make the most of the closed space has come into the limelight. No doubt, Aubameyang is a quality 15-goal/season striker but that does not hide his inability. Having played in England most of his playing career, Aubameyang naturally does not understands the dynamics of playing in closed spaces.

Martinez eliminates that factor. He can play in closed spaces, drop in short, and is a good passer. Not to forget, he is like a hawk in the final third and is a lethal finisher inside the box.

Lautaro Martinez to Barca has always been on the table in some form or the other. That said, he can flourish under Xavi.

Barcelona in their flow create way too many chances. This season, with better finishing, they could’ve been challenging for La Liga title.

Right now, all they need is a striker and two full-backs. Martinez’s work rate is highly impressive as well and he is an all-round package. Barcelona should sign him. Or shouldn’t they?

Let us know.
