Leicester City midfielder, Youri Tielemans, has admitted ‘he is keeping his options open’ as he heads into the final two years of his contract at the King Power Stadium.
The Belgium international, 24, has established himself as one of the most exciting midfielders in the Premier League under the watchful guidance of Brendan Rodgers. The central midfielder’s impressive performances have seen him attract interest from a host of top European clubs.
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are one of those clubs interested in signing Youri Tielemans, who arrived at Leicester City in a club-record £35m deal from Monaco in 2019. The report adds Leicester City are keen to tie him down to a new deal but Tielemans remains unsure over committing his future at the King Power Stadium, insisting he will ‘give everything’ to the club as long as he’s here while negotiations continue.
Youri Tielemans has helped the Foxes secure back-to-back fifth-place finishes in the Premier League, whilst scoring the winner in the FA Cup final against Chelsea last season. The Belgian midfielder has become a crucial cog in Brendan Rodgers’ side, racking up 18 goals and 19 assists in 113 games in all formats.
Youri Tielemans to Manchester United—A solid midfield option for the Red Devils?
Following the additions of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now has a really strong squad at his disposal. The midfield seems to be the only weak area in the squad with neither Fred nor Scott McTominay good enough to start on a weekly basis while Nemanja Matic has shown signs of ageing.
Donny Van de Beek has struggled to break into Solskjaer’s squad since moving from Ajax last summer and is yet to start a Premier League game so far this term. Then there’s Paul Pogba, who has entered the final year of his contract and is yet to show a firm willingness to commit his future at Old Trafford.
Thus, Solskjaer must look to recruit an experienced figure in the middle of the park who is adept defensively as well as handy in creating opportunities for his teammates in the final third. In that regard, Leicester’s Youri Tielemans would be a perfect fit at Old Trafford.
Tielemans is an exciting box-to-box midfielder known for his passing range, technical ability, vision, long-range shooting and goal-scoring ability. A tenacious tackler, he is no slouch defensively and has a great engine. The former Anderlecht man can pick out passes, long and short, whilst possessing the ability to time his runs to perfection into the box and score goals.
The Belgian international would be a top addition to Solskjaer’s team and offer great balance in midfield, which they missed on many occasions last season. Due to his passing ability and vision, Tielemans would be an instant upgrade on Fred and could line up with McTominay to give the likes of Pogba and Fernandes more freedom to wreak havoc in the final third.
At 24, Tielemans certainly has his best years ahead of him, and with the player entering the final two years of his contract at Leicester, Manchester United must look to poach him away to Old Trafford next year.
