Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Brighton star Yves Bissouma with the idea of making a move in the summer of 2022.
In French centre-back Ibrahima Konate, the Reds made just one signing during the entire summer transfer window. However, the Merseyside outfit have already started planning to replace some of their old guns next year, as Jürgen Klopp keen wants to continue building a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
According to Express, Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma has emerged as a target for Liverpool, but the Reds will wait until the summer of 2022 to sign him.
Yves Bissouma, 25, arrived at Brighton from French club LOSC Lille in the summer of 2018. During his time with the Seagulls, he has slowly but steadily developed into one of the most reliable central midfielders in the Premier League, which led to heavy interest for his signature in the recent transfer window.
Liverpool were among the host of clubs linked with a move for the Malian international, who has made 100 appearances for the sea coast club so far. Bissouma has started the new Premier League campaign fantastically and helped Graham Potter’s side clinch a 2-1 victory over Leicester City at the Amex Stadium on Sunday that saw them move fourth on the table.
Yves Bissouma to Liverpool—A top long-term investment?
Jürgen Klopp has an ageing midfield unit at his disposal, with James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara all in their 30s. Milner is in the final phase of his career while Henderson has become injury-prone in the last few years.
Thiago has a bad history of injuries and fitness problems, and the Spanish midfielder was forced off with a calf injury during Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield at the weekend.
With the Reds choosing not to replace Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer transfer window and recently losing teenager Harvey Elliot to a long-term ankle fracture-dislocation, Klopp must make it one of his top priorities to bolster the midfield department in 2022. Hence, Liverpool’s links with Yves Bissouma makes complete sense.
An all-action midfielder, Bissouma has been operating in a double-pivot at Brighton under Graham Potter but is more than capable of playing as a deep-lying playmaker.
The 25-year-old is a really good passer of the ball, reads the game well and is proficient in making well-timed tackles and challenges. He has a fantastic engine and works diligently in the middle of the park for his team.
The Malian international is adept at driving with the ball at his feet and creating chances in the final third, and is a smart player in the middle of the park. Due to his work rate, energy and ability to press teams relentlessly, Bissouma would be an ideal fit in Klopp’s style of play at Anfield.
Thus, the Reds must not hesitate to splash the cash on the Brighton ace in the summer of 2022.
