Manchester City are the Community Shield winners! Perfect way for Pep Guardiola’s side to start the season.

It was a pleasure bringing the game live to you.

Until next time! Ciao!

90+4’ SHAQIRI MISSES! WOW. Liverpool have still somehow not picked up the winner as Bravo continues to frustrate the Reds. Salah this time plays the Swiss with a nice pass, but it’s saved for a corner which comes to nothing!

FULL TIME! OFF TO PENALTIES!

90+2’ Extraordinary clearance from Walker who somehow manages clear Salah’s goal-bound shot! The fitness of the players from these two teams is really praiseworthy. Salah should have scored there as he had just Bravo to beat!

89′ City try to break but Foden”s run is halted by Keita. A forward pass for Salah has too much 0n it, but the Egyptian somehow manages to kick the ball out for only a throw-in.

88’ Salah again! Bravo comes out to smother really bravely as Salah had the whole goal to aim at. City all over the place here and are barely hanging on as Foden waits for his chance to come in.

86’ Poor cross by Shaqiri and City clear, but Liverpool win the second ball this time and Salah gets his shot away. Pretty tame in the end and Bravo again saves! A bit selfish that as he had players to pass to!

85′ Shaqiri is caught by Gundogan whose pass for Zinchenko is a good one, but the latter’s cross is cleared out and Liverpool break. Salah and Lallana then combine and the Egyptian’s looping, deflected shot is out for a corner!

84’ City barely hanging on here as the Reds have turned the screws in the second half. City are preparing a change here.

82’ Chance for Liverpool! Shaqiri involved on the right as Lallana picks out for a pass for Keita. The Guinean’s shot is saved by Bravo! Right height that for the ‘keeper!

80’ Raft of changes by Liverpool as it looks like Ox will play on the left while Lallana will replace Henderson in midfield, Salah up top, while Shaqiri on the right.

78’ Substitutions for Liverpool

Lallana is ON

OX is ON

Shaqiri is ON

Origi is OFF

Henderson is OFF

Firmino is OFF

Henderson puts in a cross with pace and direction into the Man City box, and the clearance is half-hearted. It falls to Van Dijk, who lofts it back into the danger area for Matip to tap in with his head. 1-1 and game on!

77’ GOAAAAAAAAAAAAL! JOEL MATIP EQUALISES FOR LIVERPOOL!

76′De Bruyne shows his speed on the right and makes a darting run. His pass to Gundogan is a hard one to control, and the German surrenders possession to Van Dijk.

74′ Henderson’s pressing forces Gundogan into misplacing a pass and giving away a throw. Just over 15 minutes to go as they look to score the leveller.

73′ De Bruyne slaloms past two Liverpool players, but is pushed out wide from where his shot is easily saved by Alisson. The Brazilian tries to get on with it and sets Keita up, who is stopped by Jesus. Foul.

72’ The pattern of the game has changed in this half as Liverpool are seeing more of the ball while City have been restricted to playing on the break.

70’ All of Salah’s shots have been directed at the near post today so far. A bit strange? Not really. Man City instinctively are trying to block out the curler with their positioning. Good bit of improvisation there.

69′ Liverpool break as Henderson breaks forward to slide a pass for Salah. The Egyptian’s shot is saved by Bravo! Strong shot, good save at the near post.

68’ Looks like Gomez will move to right-back, while Henderson will play deep for Keita to play in an advanced role. As I type that, Liverpool give away a freekick in the middle.

67′ Substitutions for Liverpool

Matip is ON

TAA is OFF

Keita is ON

Fabinho is OFF

65′ Liverpool seem really up for it now. The pressing has become so much more evident that was missing for a large part of the first half. Robertson there presses Bernardo Silva and wins the ball back. Seems like the team had an extra dose of the Klopp energy drink.

64′ This game has had everything really. Some good action, doesn’t seem like the two teams are still in preseason mode. Could well be another year of two sides dominating the rest of the league when it begins!

61′ OH STERLING! Good chance to make it two, but Sterling just can’t decide what to do and almost has too much time. He’s onside after being played on by De Bruyne, and while Walker makes a run, Sterling loses focus and takes a bad touch for Alisson to calmly collect it.

60′ Substitution for Man City

Gundogan is ON

Silva is OFF

59’ A few mad minutes there as Liverpool did everything but score. Against a team like City, they need to take every chance though.

58’ POST! Salah this time wriggles away from two City players and smashes on in, but it hits the post again! Liverpool smell the equaliser here, but can’t seem to get the ball in!

57’ Van Dijk’s header hits the post and the Liverpool players appeal for a goal, but it isn’t in as goalline tech rules it out! Did seem like it was on the line that. Expect this when Liverpool, take on City. A lot of goalline tech into action! Remember last season at the Etihad?

56′ Liverpool get a corner as Firmino beats Stones but runs into Otamendi who intercepts the run in time.

55′ Sterling tries to break forward, but Alexander-Arnold this time is up to the task and wins a goalkick as the ball comes off Sterling’s foot.

53′ Nothing comes off the corner and City try to break, but Gomez cuts the chance with his pace. He finds Firmino who then sets up Salah, but the winger’s run is stopped by a heap of defenders.

52′ van Dijk is closed down by Jesus, but the Dutchman recovers with is long strides and pace to recover and win the ball. Liverpool keep possession and Salah bursts forward to win a corner off Zinchenko.

50′ Liverpool have really amped it up here. A lot more verve with their movement and pressing as Bravo comes out to clear a pass by Henderson here…

49′ City break forward and hit the post! The move is stopped though as the flag belatedly goes up. That was a good move by City, but Liverpool made it easy with a high line. Sterling should have stayed onside there.

48′ And Liverpool respond immediately with Salah, Firmino and Origi involved in attack. After Salah overruns, Firmino plays a nice pass for Origi but his shot is tame…

47′ Silva and Jesus combined well after some neat work from Sterling on the left. Silva’s shot is just over the bar though. Good start by City.

The second half begins! Manchester City get us underway here…

HALF TIME! The ref blows the whistle. it has been an entertaining game. City have been the better team, but Liverpool are far from done and are very much in the contest.

47+3′ Silva this times makes inroads on the right, and uses his right foot to put a decent cross that is cleared by Van Dijk.

45+2′ City again try to make inroads on the left, but Van Dijk comes out to clear it. Thrown for City, who take it quickly and retain possession. Pace of the game has slowed, understandably.

Three minutes to be added on here…

44′ The delivery from the freekick is safely clear by Man City, who then break. A dangerous cross is again cleared, this time by Henderson. Corner to City.

43′ Good feet by Origi near the corner flag on the left. He was against two players in Walker and Silva, and the latter loses patience and fouls in the process.

42′ Pep is very animated as the gets a bit of tactics out as the players get a bit of a water break. He has also been booked for his reaction following Gomez’s challenge as well.

40′ A bit of a fracas here as Silva is down. Both players went for it. Gomez went with his studs showing, but clearly wins the ball. Pep isn’t happy either.

38′ Poor corner by Alexander-Arnold as it’s too deep and City get a goal kick. They again play it out confidently from the back. Liverpool’s pressing has been a bit broken so far.

37′ Corner for Liverpool! Poor cross by Origi, but Otamendi gets his clearance wrong and the Reds win a corner.

35′ City’s combination play on the flanks has been brilliant, it’s the final pass that has been missing. Liverpool look a bit uncertain.

34′ From one end to the other as Liverpool open City up. Origi’s touch lets him down on the left, though, and City get away with it. City then break as Sterling gets the better of Alexander Arnold, but again, his cross is cleared by Van Dijk.

33′ Yellow card for De Bruyne for hacking down Origi and stopping a counter-attack there.

32′ Gomez uses his pace well this time to intercept a pass by Rodri. That’s one thing Liverpool have at the back – pace!

30′ Brilliant work by Firmino to win a freekick in midfield. Salah dispossesses Sterling, and Firmino shields the ball well to win a freekick. There’s the workrate Klopp loves from his forward.

28′ Silva again with a stunning pass to find De Bruyne on the right, but again, the Belgian’s pass is intercepted by Gomez. Liverpool then break through Origi and his looped cross nearly finds Firmino’s head. The ball falls to Salah, and he takes a wild shot that sails over the bar!

27′ Nice bit of ball retention by City on the left before Sterling’s cross into the box is headed out by Gomez. City win the second ball, though, and keep possession.

26′ City’s pressing has been impressive. They’ve kept the heat on, and force Gomez into making a mistake. Nothing comes from the throw and Liverpool regain possession…

24′ Sterling with a driving run on the left this time, but his cross is cleared by Van Dijk. The ball falls to Salah who then turns on the afterburners and lays off a pass for an onrushing Robertson, but the move peters out as City have enough players back.

22′ Remains to be seen how much Salah will play today. He’s had only 30 mins of pre-season action. As I say that, Firmino controls nicely and plays a pass for Origi. He tries to combine with Henderson, but the pass is intercepted by Walker.

21′ Salah with a bit of magic on the right to drive at the City defence by taking on a couple of players. His layoff isn’t the best though. That’s a bit more like it.

19′ Man City clearly look fitter at the moment. Totally look like they haven’t taken the summer at all and are in sync with each other. Liverpool just can’t seem to get anything going in the attacking half.

17′ CHANCE FOR CITY! Liverpool’s defence all over the place here. City pierce the Reds’ defence as Jesus, who replaced Sane, plays a nice pass for De Bruyne from the left. The Belgian’s attempted shot is blocked, but it falls for Sterling. His shot is saved by Alisson!

15′ CHANCE FOR SALAH! He hits the outside of the post! Zinchenko misreads a long pass there and Salah is in. He turns Stones and gets through on goal, but isn’t able to bury it past Bravo!

14′ City putting more pressure on the Reds here. Tails up as Silva finds De Bruyne with a nice ball on the right, and the Belgian’s cross is just about cleared by Van Dijk.

Manchester City catch Liverpool off guard from a freekick, and a long diagonal from Walker is excellent headed back into the danger area by Zinchenko. It is flicked on by Silva for Sterling who can’t miss from a yard or so!

12′ GOAAAAAAAAAAAAL! Mancheter City score! Raheem Sterling it is!

10′ Good to see Sane back on his feet, but he still has a grimace on his face. Doesn’t look like he will carry on here…

9′ Sane here looks to be in a bit of discomfort after running into Alexander-Arnold. Doesn’t look good. Stretcher out on the pitch.

8′ CHANCE! MISS! Mo Salah was through after a good pass from Firmino there, but his shot is wide! The move started after a misplaced pass by Stones. That’s the best opening we’ve seen so far…

7′ Bernardo Silva with some magical feet there to suck in the Liverpool defenders and win a corner!

6′ Top stuff from Firmino! Stunning control, to pick the ball out from an inch above his head with his feet, and a delightful second touch to set himself up for the shot. Straight at Bravo, though.

4′ Chance for City! But side-netting! Gomez caught on the ball there and is pressed by Sterling who takes the ball and feeds Sane. Good first touch, but the shot is just wide!

3′ City seeing a lot of the ball now before Walker decides to switch play with a diagonal. The Sky Blues keep possession.

2′ And straight away, the two sides show us a bit of their philosophy. City try to play it around at the back, but Liverpool apply the press and force City to go long.

1′ Peeeeeeeeeeep! Kickoff! Liverpool get us underway, shooting from right to left in their all-red kit. City are in a special edition retro kit, designed to celebrate their 125th anniversary!

The pleasantries have been exchanged, and kickoff is seconds away, ladies and gentlemen!

Well, Manchester City are used to this. Liverpool, who finally won their first trophy under Klopp, will want to keep going and make it a season to remember.

We get a glimpse of the teams in the tunnel, preparing to head out. Kickoff is moments away!

So, it seems like Raheem Sterling will feature as the false nine for Manchester City. Liverpool will be without James Milner, but have plenty of energy and legs in there to deal with the mobile Manchester City attack.

Sterling’s inclusion will make things a bit harder for the Reds, though, as he is perhaps a bit harder to deal with when he drops deeper. While he might not have the upper body strength that Aguero has, but the ex Liverpool man sure has lovely feet and has improved his passing as well.

For Liverpool, Origi might be the X factor. Last season, he did the job when called upon, and lest we forget, he wasn’t at his fittest. With a full pre-season behind him, he might be more than just an impact sub this season. We will see.

Intriguing game coming up!

And here were are, ladies and gentlemen!

Liverpool Confirmed Lineup: Alisson Becker; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Virgil Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Origi

Manchester City Confirmed Lineup: Bravo; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Zinchenko; Rodri, Silva, De Bruyne; Sane, Bernardo, Sterling

The last time these two sides faced off, Manchester City won 2-1 at the Etihad. The game not only stopped Liverpool from winning the title in the end, but also stopped them from replicating what Arsenal achieved in 2004, going the whole league season unbeaten!

Venue: Wembley Stadium, London

We’ll bring you all the action from Wembley – from the confirmed lineups to all the action up until the final whistle.

Community Shield, Liverpool Man City – Preview

The Premier League might be less than a week away, but the curtain-raiser is here as last season’s treble winners Manchester City will take on Champions League winners Liverpool in the FA Community Shield at Wembley.

The two sides were separated by just a point in the Premier League last season in what was the most enthralling battle between the top two the league has ever seen. Replicating that will be difficult this time, but we might get a hint of who might set the pace in the game today.

Sometimes, the managers play down the result of the Community Shield, but in Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, we have two serial winners who often lay the emphasis on momentum, and that is exactly what the winners will have heading into next weekend, so expect two strong teams out there.

Liverpool’s pre-season form has been patchy, but their returning stars led the side to a thumping win against Lyon, and that will serve them well against Manchester City.

Liverpool vs Man City – Predicted Lineups

Liverpool probable lineup: Alisson Becker; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Virgil Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Origi

Manchester City probable lineup: Claudio Bravo; Walker, Stones, Garcia, Zinchenko; Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva; Bernardo, Sterling, Sane

Liverpool vs Man City – Key Players

It remains to be seen how long the duo of Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah will last as they recently returned to training. The two will be key against Man City as they are essential to the style that can ruffle the possession-based set-up of Guardiola.

For Manchester City, the defence will be key as their attack has settled in well already. New signing Rodri in front of the back four will be an interesting watch, and it remains to be seen if he is indeed the true successor to Fernandinho, having joined the club for a record £62.8 million.

If there’s one phase where City might a weakness against a pressing side like Liverpool, it’s off the ball, so that’s where the emphasis will lie for the two teams.
