Barcelona could reportedly make a shock move for either Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette from Arsenal. Aubameyang and Lacazette both missed the Gunners’ opening game of the season against Brentford.
Spanish publication Sport have claimed that Barcelona could make a move for a striker if they get a fee for their current forward Martin Braithwaite. Manager Ronald Koeman admitted that the Catalan club is in the market for a striker in this transfer window.
The report claims the Spanish Primera Liga giants could make a move for Aubameyang or Lacazette and Arsenal will be interested in selling both players.
The Gunners will also reportedly be interested in a swap deal with Barcelona for either player. Lacazette enters the final year of his Arsenal contract, while Aubameyang has two years remaining on his current deal.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexander Lacazette: Who would fit well at Barcelona?
Arsenal are a club in crisis at the moment following their surprising loss to Brentford on Friday. The Gunners need to bring in a few new faces to the club in this transfer window, but first they need to sell a few players.
Aubameyang and Lacazette have been the club’s key players in attack over the last few seasons, but both have been disappointing over the last year. The Gabon star, who is Arsenal’s captain, scored just 10 Premier League goals last season, while Lacazette scored 13 times in the league.
Barcelona have had a tumultuous few weeks off the pitch, but delivered on the pitch, winning 4-2 against Real Sociedad. The Catalan club could enter the transfer market once again to sign a striker following the injury to Sergio Aguero. It is a surprising move as Barcelona have other players like Antoine Griezmann and Memphis Depay who could do a better job upfront than either Aubameyang or Lacazette.
But, if Barca is hell-bent on signing one of the two, they should make a move for Aubameyang.
The former Borussia Dortmund star has vast experience, a knack for scoring plenty of goals when on song, and offers versatility as he can play upfront or out wide on the left. Aubameyang may not be as rapid as he was a few years ago, but still has enough speed to trouble opposition defences.
If he can stay fit and get a string of games, the Gunners captain could score 15-odd goals for Barca, while also giving Koeman a variety of options in attack. Aubameyang’s output is likely to go up with better players around him.
