Manchester United will face QPR in their second pre-season friendly at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on Saturday. A young United side faced Derby County in the first pre-season game last weekend, winning the game 2-1.
The Red Devils started their training camp in Surrey on Monday ahead of the 2021-22 season. United’s senior players are gradually expected to return from holiday in the coming weeks.
Let’s take a look at the possible Man United lineup for the game against QPR.
Goalkeeper
United’s summer signing Tom Heaton, started the game last weekend and he should feature once again in the Man United lineup. Dean Henderson and David de Gea, the two keepers ahead of him in the pecking order, haven’t returned to training yet. Lee Grant could be used off the bench in the second half.
Defence
A young defence was on show against Derby County, with Axel Tuanzebe and Teden Mengi starting at the heart of the defence. They were flanked by Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams on the right and left, respectively. We could see a similar backline with one of the full-backs dropping out for Alex Telles. Telles should start at left-back while Wan-Bissaka or Williams will start on the opposite side.
Di’Shon Bernard and Will Fish could be options off the bench for United in the second half of the game.
Midfield
James Garner and Dylan Levitt started as the two central midfielders in the first half and did a decent job. Garner could keep his place, while Nemanja Matic or Andreas Pereira could start in place of Levitt in the Man United lineup. Juan Mata started as the No. 10 and he could retain his place in the starting XI.
Jesse Lingard and Facundo Pellestri both played well in the second half and both of them could start in the Man United lineup.
The likes of Anthony Elanga, Tahith Chong, Shola Shoretire, and Hannibal Mejbri will likely play in the second half.
Attack
Mason Greenwood should once again lead the line as he builds up his fitness ahead of the 2021-22 season. Greenwood will most likely start as the forward in the opening game of the season due to Marcus Rashford’s injury and Edinson Cavani’s late arrival to pre-season.
17-year-old Joe Hugill could also get a chance in the second half of the game against QPR, having played a few minutes in the first game against Derby County.
This weekend’s match will not see the return of any of the senior players that weren’t involved in last weekend’s game, but several players could return for the next friendly game against Brentford.
