With the season entering its business end, the backpages are already focusing on the upcoming summer transfer window. According to Metro, Chelsea are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach star Jonas Hofmann.
Hofmann is a German footballer who plays as a midfielder for Gladbach. He has been a vital player for Monchengladbach this season with seven goals and 11 assists in 25 appearances.
Jonas Hofmann was managed by Tuchel in the past at Dortmund and it is being said that the gaffer would prefer a reunion with the player at Stamford Bridge. There are reports suggesting that Hakim Ziyech is unhappy with how things have transpired at Chelsea and might consider the possibility of leaving at the end of the season.
This would open up a spot in an already bloated squad and present the ideal scenario for Tuchel to rope in a couple of players of his choice.
The report further states that the player has not denied interest from other clubs. He said that,
‘I think it’s clear that other clubs will notice you if you perform well. ‘Therefore, it is possible that one or the other have already asked.’
The 28-year-old is up for a fresh challenge after five years at Gladbach. There is no better place other than Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. Tuchel knows him very well and will be able to make the player adapt to his management style easily.
Jonas Hofmann to Chelsea: Logical move?
Chelsea have been below par in attack this season, especially ever since Tuchel arrived. He is unsure of his options at the moment and changes are imminent in the summer. Moreover, the goals from midfield have been few and far between with Mason Mount shouldering almost all of the responsibility in the final third.
The German manager is ideal for a player like Hofmann who was called up to the German national team for a friendly against Turkey. He got his senior debut in the second half to help Germany take the third lead in the game.
Jonas Hofmann is a class player with a wide range of passing skills in his locker. Likewise, his passing skills can be compared to Mesut Ozil at his prime. He has the potential to break any stable defence with his vision and build-up play. Chelsea don’t have such a player in their squad now. He is a versatile operator who can be used across the spectrum in the final third and will be a solid addition to the team.
The attacker is unlikely to cost too much and could be a smart addition to the plethora of riches Chelsea currently have, some of them looking completely out of depth in the squad.
