Tottenham Hotspur look to sign £26m rated goal-machine: A top option for Mourinho?

Jose Mourinho has already made some smart moves this transfer window, but the latest player he wants to add to the Tottenham Hotspur squad is Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik, as per reports.

Reports from Express claim that Tottenham have been monitoring Milik’s situation this summer, and are expected to make a move for him in the coming days.

Also wanted by Juventus and AS Roma, Milik is valued at £26 million, and has just a year left on his current contract in Italy. He has decided not to extend his contract but will he be a good addition to the Spurs squad?

Arkadiusz Milik’s Numbers

Having started his career in his home country, the Polish striker spent time at Bayern Leverkusen, Augsburg, and Ajax before joining Napoli back in 2016.

He cemented his place in the first team the season before last where he registered 17 goals and three assists in 27 league starts. He followed it up with 11 goals in 19 starts last season but was irregular in the side with a knee problem.

He also has 51 caps for his national side and is an experienced player who will push for a place in the first team under Jose Mourinho.

What Will Milik Bring To North London?

A natural finisher who loves to take up dangerous positions in the final third, the 26-year-old is a smart player, whose movement and technique allow him to frustrate even the best of defenders.

Milik is adept at dropping back and helping in build-up play, can hold onto the ball under pressure and can create chances as well as score them consistently.

The Poland international is also an excellent set-piece taker and has done a decent job playing as a support striker in his time in Italy. So he can be effective, leading the attack for Spurs.

Mourinho is expected to stick with Harry Kane as his first choice striker next season. But the English star has no real backup, and that could hamper Tottenham’s progress in what could be a gruelling season ahead due to Europa League commitments, and a shorter overall time frame for the league.

Lucas Moura, Heung-Min Son, and even Dele Alli were used to lead the attack in Kane’s absence, so signing a striker is a priority for Spurs this summer and Milik fits the bill well.

The Napoli star can act as a target-man but his ability to run in behind and stretch the defence gives Mourinho’s system a different dimension.

Even without Premier League experience, Milik will add goals to this Spurs side and with just a year left on his current contract with Napoli, he may be available for less than the quoted price, and could be a long-term option considering he is still only 26.
