Man United Make £26.8m Bid For Impressive Real Madrid Fullback: Smart Option For Ole

Manchester United continue to be active in the transfer market in search of players that can improve the squad and the latest name linked with a move to Old Trafford is Real Madrid star Sergio Reguilon.

Spanish news outfit Sport claim that The Red Devils have placed a £26.8m bid for Reguilon with Real Madrid yet to decide on the player’s future at the club.

The La Liga giants may only let him go on a loan this summer and wait for his stock to rise but should United go all in for the Spaniard?

Sergio Reguilon And His Rise

A highly-rated full-back even in his days at the Real Madrid academy, Reguilon broke into the first team at Bernabeu in the 2018-19 season, where he made 19 appearances for the club.

He showed enough promise but was sent out on loan to Sevilla last season, where he put in performances that saw the biggest clubs in England stand up and take notice.

The 23-year-old registered two goals and four assists in 29 league starts at Sanchez Pizjuan and it is no surprise that the biggest clubs in England have shown interest in him recently.

An attack-minded full-back who loves to have the ball at his feet, Sergio Reguilon is an excellent passer and his vision allows him to create chances from the left flank. He is also decent with his positioning at the back and his ability to read the game sees him cut off passing lanes and frustrate opponents on the wing.

Reguilon was so impressive in the last two La Liga seasons that he got a national call-up from Luis Enrique earlier this year and he certainly has the potential to be a long term servant for Spain.

At 23, he has yet to learn a lot and a move to the Premier League might be a chance for him to establish himself as one of the best in Europe in his role next season.

Right Man For United?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had Luke Shaw as his first-choice left-back last season. The English international was finding some consistency late last season but picked up an injury that could put him out of the game for the start of the new season as well.

The young Brandon Williams did not do much wrong but Ole might not want to stick with the 20-year-old as his first choice next season, making Reguilon seem like a logical target for the Old Trafford outfit this summer.

Shaw, once back from injury, will have to fight for his place in the first team and this competition will only help United in the long run.

Sergio Reguilon has no real experience outside Spain which might see him take time to settle into life in England. So unless Ole has long term plans for the Spaniard, signing Reguilon on loan may not necessarily be an immediate solution to the problems at the back for United.

However, at his price, the 23-year-old is a worthy investment and could prove to be a game-changer for the Red Devils.
